Places to camp in Oregon
My wife and I are picking up our new trailer in June and are planning a trip thru Washington State and Oregon. We have maps of the two states that show all the campsites but we were hoping that someone might be able to point us to some good campsites. Also should we be booking spots now or do we have time? We will be going down the coast and coming back up somewhere in the middle of Oregon back into B.C..

Re: Places to camp in Oregon
All Oregon state parks are great, near as I can tell.
Phone 1-800-551-6949 ( General Information ) and ask them to mail you the Oregon State Parks Guide, The Official Oregon Trip Planner, maps, etc. They have brochures for wine country tours, Bend, Oregon has it's own magazine-size booklet. Go to www.TravelOregon.com to check it all out. You probably can order mags and stuff on-line as well as by phone. I've downloaded maps of campgrounds with individual sites to aid me in planning.
I don't have a web address for Washington State Parks, but just Google. Do the same with Idaho. You will be inundated with camping materials. If nothing else, you can use them to dyke your place after you're done planning.

Re: Places to camp in Oregon
I agree with baglo, I am registered online with both Washington and Oregon State Parks. They both have great amenities for a great price. They are usually located in nice spots too. It is handy booking online, and you can cancel right up to near the date if needed.
I remember last spring getting an email from Oregon Parks, one they sent out to all members, throwing out the idea of raising prices a bit to cover costs. My response was a definite "go for it". Still, for just under $30/night for full services and great sites, I have no problem at all with that.

Re: Places to camp in Oregon
The information given above is fantastic and is going to be very useful. We are really looking forward to our trip to Oregon and Washington State and I know it will be the first of many. Thanks very much. Now just 5 more months of sleeps.

Re: Places to camp in Oregon
Hi digger57,
As far as Washington beaches:
We're going to be camping at Cape Disappointment June 16-18. The loop we're in is full that weekend, but there's room in others.

We also like Grayland Beach alot.

Reservations depend on when you are traveling though. The beach sites on weekends book very early (now), but midweek they ought to have room.

Re: Places to camp in Oregon
I have put together a map of the Oregon and Washington parks where we have stayed in the last year.
Here is the link. Anybody with a Google account can edit this map.
I want to write a short blurb for each park. Right now parks are marked, but the comments are empty. Have at her.

Re: Places to camp in Oregon
Hi Bvansnell
could you please also post these camping spots if not already done,
with your other posts in WHERE TO STAY as it is easyer for some to find.
Aila and I get some good spots from there.
Most of our spots are GPS corrdinates, and very rough 4X4 spots
Thanks for the info

Re: Places to camp in Oregon
Ron, I added two more parks I have stayed at, Wallowa Lake and Umpqua Lighthouse. Can anyone add comments, or just your. It would be neat to hear of others experiences at the places, but not sure this would be the format to do it under.

Re: Places to camp in Oregon
Here goes. I'm going to attempt to move this topic to where to stay.
Hang on.

Re: Places to camp in Oregon
I think anybody should be able to add comments to the map, Jim. Under "Description." You might need to hit Edit first.

Re: Places to camp in Oregon
I am not finding this 'Description' place. I can comment on the map itself, but not make comments on the individual places. Likely just doing something wrong.....as usual.....

Re: Places to camp in Oregon
The comments on the map migrate top the sidebar, it seems.

Re: Places to camp in Oregon
Just stayed at Cape Lookout State Park West of Tillamook, Oregon. Good beach to find Agates. Nice Park with many trails close to the ocean.
