White Belly Band not turning yellow, but--

Year six with our white belly band, and it’s still as white as the day it was new EXCEPT FOR PINK BLUSH SPOTS that are starting to appear on the band. (They won’t wash off.)

Okay, turns out that there is a microorganism, Streptoverticullium reticulum, that loves to eat the phthalate plasticizer in the PVC. One of the metabolites of this feast is a red dye that stains the white band.

(Other than the pink splotches, apparently these Streptomyces are basically ‘good guys’.)

Has anyone else with a white or light belly band seen this?

My wife just got her childhood doll down from the attic and the vinyl shoes had a pink/orange stain. Baking soda cleaned them up real nice.

Yup. Same thing on ours. Replaced it two years ago. Very easy.
