Allow myself to introduce...myself
Greetings! I am pleased to now count myself a member of the Escape community, having just purchased a used 2010 17B.
I am an active duty service member and for years have dreamed dreams of a carefree lifestyle traveling wherever the road leads, and then sleeping there in a portable, towed, hotel-room-equivalent. Many years ago I ran across the Escape brand and fell in love. I'm now just around the corner from retirement, and so the family agreed that it's finally time to get one, so we found ourselves a very nice used 17B, as yet to be named, and here we are.
Our grand plan is to hit the road next summer and do a family walkabout for a year or so, and see where that leads us, both physically and spiritually. The wife and I have two daughters who are just old enough and just young enough to make this a doable adventure of a lifetime. The girls are 3 and 5.
We expect to learn a lot, about ourselves, about the world, and about the finer points of an adventure of this sort. None of us have any experience with RV's yet, so we expect it to be...interesting. My wife is a military vet as well, and we are confident in our combined ability to surmount all the challenges we will encounter.
I've been reading and learning as much as I can about everything RV, and this forum in particular is, of course, a trove of helpful resources, thank you!
Our rough plan at this time is to hit the coast (we are stationed near San Fran at the moment) and then head north at a leisurely pace, until somewhere in Canada, then turn east and go until the Midwest, before turning south to visit friends and family. We hope to camp off grid as much as possible, commune with nature as much as possible, and show as much of both the macro and micro scale of life as we can to our daughters.
I look forward to being part of this community, and to meeting some of you in person along the way, should fate bring our paths together.
Cheers,
Scott
