Insurance in MA

We have a 2018 21 and moved to MA last fall from WA. The trailer spent the winter in storage and the registration expires in June so I am just now looking at moving the documents.

Does anyone have suggestions on insurance providers for MA? We had progressive before but they don't do trailers here and it looks like Good Sam and Geico don't either.

I think I need insurance before I can move the registration like I did on our cars but if anyone has done that I would be interested in advice as well.

“I think I need insurance before I can move the registration like I did on our cars...”

Few, if any, states require insurance on a trailer. Just on motorized vehicles.

Call the appropriate MA office to verify.

AARP/Hartford insures Escapes as does State Farm in my state.

If no insurance what about theft or storm damage, understood the liability runs with the tow vehicle but you have a $30k asset sitting somewhere. Mine was available as it is kept at home where the auto/home insurance is bundled.

I'm talking about state required insurance. Not owner desired insurance.

I had Progressive for my Honda Pilot here in MA but when I got the Escape I had to get the same insurance co. to insure both the Honda and Escape so went with Amica.

I wonder why? I have full value replacement insurance from Progressive for my trailer across the border here in NY...

It’s a MA thing. I had Progressive for years for both my auto and motorhome but when I bought the Escape Progressive and Geico both said they weren’t allowed to insure travel trailers in MA. I was very limited with the companies I could use. I think the company has to have an office in MA to be able to insure trailers.

MA insurance

We have Mapfre (aka Commerce) on our 2 vehicles and 2018 19.

I am not aware of any MA insurance company that offers replacement value after the first year.

Our 2014 19 was destroyed by our neighbor's tree and Mapfre covered it under the auto policy comprehensive, see our post here. The reimbursement was the depreciated value, but it did reflect Escape's minimal depreciation. The process was not painless, but I must say that Mapfre did pretty well and I remain a loyal customer.

FWIW, our annual cost is $233 for collision (line 7) and comprehensive (line 9) with a $1000 deductible and a $54 credit for a 99 merit rating.
