Why are you adding 5% GST to your asking price when a BC resident pays 12% PST when they register a used recreation vehicle with ICBC. Just asking!

Ah, good question. The trailer is in my company as name. When it sells, it will show as revenue on our books and GST will be forwarded to the Gov't. PST can be collected only if you are a resident of BC when you register the trailer. For instance, an Alberta resident would not be required to pay PST. It's no different to the purchaser really.

Wouldn't the purchaser have to pay tax to whatever province or state that they register it? Escape used to collect taxes on new trailers and their US buyers would then have to send paperwork to federal government for a rebate. It was a convoluted process so ETI began importing trailers into the US.

the GST (5%) is Federal tax. Due for any purchase in Canada. Each province has different tax rules. Once the GST is collected, it can't be charged again, it's paid. What each province has for tax rules, differs across our country.

So why are you charging GST on on used trailer?

Possibly you should refrain from commenting. I don't imagine you are an interested buyer.
I don't make the tax laws in our country. Just have to play by the rules.

As far as tax laws, owners are not tax collectors, they just pay the tax the registration requires as a consumer. The laws are state by state, province by province and the rules are clearly posted someplace.

Perhaps what the OP is making clear is that the company purchased the trailer when new, perhaps GST was not paid at the time and must be paid now it's being sold second hand.

It's really no different that having to pay GST at the border on our used trailer, because it was never paid when new, since it was exported to the US.

We found this rather curious as well ... trailer built in Canada ...originally bought in Canada .. it can't have escaped having had GST paid when new ... can't happen.

However if the OP runs a business selling used vehicles and is selling this Escape trailer through his business perhaps there is then a GST requirement " again " ??

Are you selling the hitch equipment with the camper? If so, can you comment on the specific set up you have?
