our gate on the black tank was installed backwards at the factory .
The seal is to be on the down stream side of the gate. ours was up stream .... Ya ..go figure ..
Replaced with new .. gasket on the right side ... down stream , no problems since.

The guy doing the orientation at Chilliwack pushed the Y up and down on a dry seal to show us it could be moved - it leaked the whole way back to Texas with a torn seal.
Sometimes they just don't know any better!

And they did the same to ours. Luckily it did not leak as I caught him as he was doing it and told him you can't move that part.
When we arrived at home after reading the forum some more I ended up taking it apart and checking the seals and lubing them with some silicone. Did the gate valves too.

I don’t understand what part you are talking about so I can stop him as well. The only parts that I think should move are the two valve leavers and the cap. What is this “Y” thing on a dry seal?

same here. just hold the sewer hose below to catch then screw it on. 4 people reported it on this thread including you OP, seems fine to me.

Same problem I've repeatedly on my 17B just picked up August 2017, about a cup of smelly liquid comes out when the valve is first opened before I can first attach the hose. (always wear gloves). This is a good suggestion: just keep the end of the house right under the opening to catch it at first. Kinda far away from BC to get 'er fixed.

Disneydoc, I saw that you have been in contact with ETI, and I hope they help you solve your problem.
I had a similar issue with our brand new Casita, so I decided to replace the Valterra valve. When I pulled it off, I saw that there was a screw wedged so that the valve never completely closed. Hope it is something as simple as that on your Escape.
Regards,
Fred M.

The sewer connection on the newer Escapes is a double Ell - the center 3" bayonet connection "Y" is where the waste hose connects. The Y shaped center piece is sealed to the two valves with rubber seals and is not made to be moved once the valve bolts are tight. If forced, one or more of the two seals could tear and leak. The correct way to position the Y is to loosen all eight of the valve bolts, rotate the Y to the desired position, and retighten the bolts.
That ain't what the guy did - he just shoved it up and down a few times before I could stop him. And it leaked all the way home.

Photo worth a thousand words...
Thank you very much for the photo and I understand completly now. All my trailers before were arranged differently and glued. I have never had one leak unless there was something not letting the valve close.
I will watch that this part is not moved on my orientation...and tell him why.

We have the same issue with our 2017 5.0.
Thanks for posting this - we're not alone ;-)
I'm going to see if we can get the gate/valve replace.
