Sounds like Prince Rupert is a much better option for those that, gasp, don't like the open ocean. Lot's to see from Prince Rupert through central BC.

I’ve traveled on the Alaska Marine Highway - Washington to Alaska - twice. 1979 and this year. Perhaps I’ve been lucky, but both times things were calm enough that I didn’t feel sea sick when exposed to the open Pacific. That said, I’m sure things could get pretty rough when the conditions are just right (wrong ;-).
