Record Gas Prices in Vancouver
Saw this on CBC. Wow, I'd imagine that $8 a gallon gas has to have a negative effect?

Oh yeah, great excuse to avoid Calgary, Adrian.
It will make a huge difference though.

Is my math right, we'd pay $4.72 USD for a gallon of gas in BC?
We're at $3.81 around here, or $1.30 CAD per ltr.

Groan. Figures. I'm planning a coast-to-coast trip with half in Canada for later this summer. Guess I'd better double or triple my fuel budget for Canada travel. Sigh.

It probably won't be that bad, except for the Vancouver area, as some others have pointed out. But, definitely a hit on the wallet.

Won't be traveling that far west. Really only going to be in the lower tip of BC as I scoot across the border in Idaho and on my way to Vulcan, Alberta. But still I know what happens to prices for everything when fuel prices go up...

I’ve always read full-timers reporting that if they are moving around frequently, fuel is the highest component of the monthly budget no matter where the gas price is at. This usually leads to them making longer stays once they have done the big adventures.
Guess there’s some fuel for thought for those of us heading towards full-timing.

Actually we've been paying the highest gas prices in Canada for as long as I can remember. People act with outrage each time a new carbon tax etc. raises the price even higher but life goes on.
17 cents of the price per liter in Vancouver and out the Fraser Valley aways is a Translink tax. Those of you picking up in Sumas and only being in the Chilliwack area will be happy to know that the tax isn't charged out there.

The jerry can express down to Bellingham must be in full swing.
Glad I have an electric car.

Well yeah Ron. It's good to read your news from as many sources as possible. They all have a slant one way or another, and the more sources the better. We watch BBC America for the same reason. Well that, and the fact that many British shows are superior.

Looking forward to doing long retirement journeys, I have done some rough budgeting, and fuel is the single biggest expense.

Absolutely agree. Also watch BBC and love British humor.
No humor in the gas prices though. People are videoed filling multiple gas containers at stations just across the border. A little scary to see folks loading several containers into the back of an SUV.

Except in Britain (and Canada) it's humour Ron
Now available in Canada on Netflix is a six part doc on Monty Python's Flying Circus and I believe it's 44 episodes of the original show. Now THAT is British humour.

I have found this to be the case for my five- and six-month trips, with the other big expense being camping fees. I suspect that many full-timers are using much larger rigs than our trailers, so the gas price affects them more.

Probably. Can you imagine the fuel costs for driving a diesel pusher, if the cost per gallon were in the $6 to $8 range? Then again, I guess if you've the funds to buy a million dollar rig, maybe you don't worry about fuel prices.

I just crossed into Blaine WA last night to fill up. It was $3.78/Gallon . That's exactly USD $1/Litre, so about $1.30 CAD. Compare that to $1.60 at the local pump. That's $15 on a 50 litre tank. Ugh.

Just picked up two more military style gas cans at local Costco yesterday 2 for $24.99 Canadian. Can't beat that price. They do not stock them year round.Get'em while you can.
Of course my American friends gets ticked off having to wait at Bellingham Costco watching those Canadians filling gas cans. When I tell them our prices run 35 to 40 % higher they are very understanding.Got a mailbox in Blaine so makes the idea worthwhile.
Would not be worth it running down from North Van.

Not contemplating crossing the border for gas. I'd have to fill up here before driving over an hour to the border, sitting in the border line-up idling, sitting in Blaine at the pumps line-up and turning back for another border line-up.
I'd "save" about $24 if you don't count the gas I used to get to Blaine and back, and my time ( $0 ). RAV4 gas tank is so small, there is no point.
