I live in Wenatchee Wa. I think you can increase the enjoyment of the drive by getting to the east side of the Cascades for the majority of your trip.
1. You won't have to go through the crazy traffic of the Olympia thru Everett I-5 mess.
2. You will be driving on roads that have more scenic value.
3. You will enter Canada at at less busy border crossing. = faster crossing
4. When you enter Canada... the border officers will be aware of the Escape ralley... this will lead to less questions, less hassle. (at least that was the way it was for us last year.)

We are going to the Escape gathering at Osoyoos.
Starting in Corvallis heading up 5 to Portland
Turning East on 84 turning at 97 all the way to Osoyoos.
(97 and 82 become one for a short distance)
You're route sounds perfect to me. Since you're on hwy 97 and if you have time for an interesting tourist trap I suggest stopping at Leavenworth on hwy 2. It's about 1/2 hour out of your way.
