Thank you! Yes - snake gaiters would definitely help. I have gaiters but for the snow... Will look into it. I always have the light and am usually quite good at spotting them.
Glen - The mamba story is impressive. I have never seen a mamba; have seen a cobra, and that's one impressive snake!
What we have here are rattlesnakes...

I have a Four Sevens light I used at work for the last several years. It uses two AA batteries. At work batteries were free, just go to the tool room window and ask for some. I retired but still like the ability to replace batteries. I found I could buy a 24 pack of Duracell Pro exactly like we used at work for less than an 18 pack of regular Duracells at Home Depot.
This is basically the same light, apparently Prometheus bought Four Sevens out.
Prometheus Lights Quark LED Flashlight, Small Pocket EDC Flashlight with Clip, High CRI, Multiple Configurable Modes including Strobe & Burst for Emergencies, 2xAA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries (QK2A)

Common at the Escape rally in Osoyoos. Just call the office and they send a guy with a bucket to collect them and move them elsewhere.

I'll have to be more observant (and not tell Noelia, she is petrified of snakes) to look around.

The last time we attended the Escape rally there was a sign along the road near the entry that alerted visitors to the presence of rattlesnakes. I haven’t recently had the desire to have a close encounter in a foreign country so I never looked hard for them at Osoyoos

I can't help but be reminded of Michael Caine as Sherlock Holmes - Mambo, Mamba - What's the difference...

Thanks for that.
I think the snake in the tree was a boa...

Worked with a guy named Tim Swafford in 69 and 70 in Idaho. He was from rural Arkansas. He had a desire to eat rattlesnake and while out with the trail crew they harvested one. Tom dressed him out and fried him up in cross sections. Proclaimed them edible but not very good. I did not have much desire to try them then and even less now. Tried alligator once too, ok but not great. Frog legs and snapping turtle, pretty good.
