Closet Question
Disclosure: First I made a couple of attempts to find an answer via the search engine. I may want to build some shelves in the space allocated as a closet. Does anyone know the location of the framing that I can latch onto in order to install runners? My build Picts don't reveal anything. I thinking it is just a rectangular frame skinned out with the 1/4" ply. May adding shelves is not an option?

Which trailer do you have - your avatar does not specify. I assume the cabinet construction is the same in all of them, though - the closet is likely framed around the edges with a thin plywood/paneling surface on the inside. Not hard to add shelves, though - the framing is usually plenty wide enough at the corners to attach shelf supports. Do you have a pantry with a shelf? If so, look at how they did the shelf in that - a couple of small angle brackets on the bottom of the shelf screwed into the sides. If you want adjustable shelves you could attach a couple of bars with slots for shelf brackets all along their length, as some people have done, and then would be able to adjust the height of your shelves as needed.

The light bar stud finders will find the supports in the panel Escape walls. I bought mine from a Whse. Club on sale for about $30. Franklin is a Mfg. of these type of stud finders. Attached is Amazons best seller.

I have installed shelves in both my E19 and my E21 closet. There is framing at the front and down the sides at midpoint that shelving can be attached, as well at the rear. I used a nail gun to attach the rails and then thin plywood shelves on the framing.

Shelves in my 21
Used a strong magnet to find the colored staples that hold the skins to the framing. Then added 3/8 inch plywood sheeting to both sides for my shelves so I could mount adjustable height shelf brackets. On top of each shelf I have a full extension lightweight drawer.
I split the closet so that we still have a 6 inch wide hanging space for bulky clothes. The shelving/drawers are used as the food pantry.

The rare earth magnet is a clever idea. Do you have any Picts you could share re: how you split up the closet?

I used an Elfa drawer rack from the Container Store for the closet in my 17A. I brought the components with me to orientation and installed at the Lynden KOA. Took some head scratching and advanced planning plus a trip to HD to allow for the bottom lip on the closet as well as cushioning the conduit at the back left that carried the elec. wires (the ubiquitous pool noodles). It's by far my favorite mod.

Thanks for the link. I have a stud finder but it is a pain to use.

We did the easy route and had ETI put shelves in our closet during our build.

Us too. But if I could do it over, I’d rather have shelves that pull out, like a drawer. Or maybe just drawers. Say, I could turn the lower couple shelf cubbies into drawers pretty easily...hmmm.

Absolutely! IMHO shelves are better than a closet and drawers or sliding shelves are even better. Why is everything I always want in the very back?

Adjustable shelves/drawers
I split the closets and added drawers to adjustable shelves while leaving around 6 inches of hanging space. My tall dog food container also lives there.
Cereal boxes fit fine standing in the drawers. The same drawer mechanism also barely fits under the sink cabinet on the classic 21; probably better on the new 21.

closets?? Naah!
WE never used the closet in our Casita for anything but storage for table tops and 'totes' of food etc so we decided [on our build sheet], to have ETI install a shelf in the "closet" of our new E21 and a shelf in the 'extra closet' on the driver side wh we ordered as an option..we plan to use our tried and true "tote system". ie..The only things we ever hang up while camping are a jacket or two anyways..h3!!, it's camping, we say. ;-)

I'm sold. Elfa has a custom drawer planner. Here's one plan.

Really well done! I was looking to do the same thing in my 17A. Can you confirm that this is the elfa "Narrow" drawer/frame size? They publish the narrow as being 14" wide, and I thought the wardrobe opening was 13 7/8" (need to confirm this measurement).

Beautiful work!
Looking at your work makes me want to do that to mine. That is the best drawer install I have seen yet.
