With the U-shape Dinette, the area under the passenger side bench is left empty, and is a good spot for larger cargo or supplies, but as shared above by Charlie, no access from the outside:

Steve - Thanks so much for your quick post. Much appreciated. Now we know not to pursue it. We'll get the exterior hatch on both sides for easy access under the benches.
Best,

Does anyone have two (additional) exterior hatches at the back sides of a 21'? Many do not even have one back there. Can't say that I have heard of a 21' having two in the back. Don't know if they will put one on the passenger side but guess they can. We have a driver's side additional one. We have particular outside items, that we often use, kept there.

I opted for no hatches on the dinette of my 5.0TA. Seeing the water heater is on the driver's side, that is out anyway. I am just going to wait and see if I want or need one, as they are very easy to add after the fact if you wish.
That's my plan, and I'm stickin' to it.

The standard extra hatch on a 21' goes on the driver's side, for anyone's info. Water heater is further forward.
I have yet to do a number of things that I planned for the 21'. Cutting a big hole in the side of the trailer was definitely not on my list! It is an easy item for you and some others used to doing such work. I let Escape do what they will do and I'll do additions that they will not.

Agree with the comments made so far, the cost of an extra hatch does not calculate with the space behind the hatch. In other words there may mot be much storage in that area. Under the bed on the 21 it is a different story because of the difficult access and the large area. Most of the storage under the dinette is easily reached. Do not find I want to get to that area when I am outside. Got plenty of storage in front in the box.

2 external hatches for access under 21 dinette
We are asking for 2 external hatches, one on each side, under the dinette of our 21. The one on the passenger side will be used for items we want for use under the awning. The one on the driver's side will be used for making connections to a portable solar panel and/or Wifi/Cell antenna. We are also asking for a second electrical hatch, next to the power electrical hatch, for running the wires through.

We have the U-shaped dinette in a 2017 21' and I would highly recommend getting access hatches on both street and curb side. There is some pretty decent storage space back there. Sure you can get to it from inside by wrestling with cushions and doing gymnastics with the table but much easier from outside.

Fred, did you get a door on the angled corner of the bed platform on your trailer?

On the angled corner of the bed platform, I have the standard door on the panel near the closet, an electrical outlet in the middle panel, and an optional door on the panel near the bathroom door.
Regards,
Fred M.

Yes, we have a 2017 21' TT. In addition to the door on the front passenger side, we have a door on the rear passenger side and a door on the rear drivers side. They make life much simpler for us.

Completely agree with Fred - we would be sad if we had not had them put doors on both passenger and driver side. (I think Fred meant to say "front drivers side not front passenger side) 😂😳

We use our extra driver's side hatch for an electrical extension cord for when we need that to reach, which has happened quite a few times.
We have an extra door on the angled bed panel and the standard, but not at bathroom. We have extra outlets there.

Sorry - I can't remember: do you and Fred both have U-shaped dinettes (meaning some of what's under my 21's passenger side bench may be located under the back bench of the U)?
I sometimes wish we had gotten a rear hatch on the passenger side, but honestly the battery box takes up so much space I console myself with the thought that I couldn't stash much under that seat anyway. As it is, I store a couple of fans there, which might not be retrievable through a hatch cutout anyway... realizing they're big enough that my original justification for no PS hatch is moot.

Our whole passenger side bench is full of stuff. The battery box is at the end with the U-dinette. And Mary, we have a fan there, too, and could get it out if we had a hatch but no hatch that side. And a stove and lantern and I don't know what all is there.

Cathy, I'm wondering if the new-style 21's with U-dinette also have batteries located where yours are. (Fred and Dave both have 2017 21's, which I saw in Bandera, but didn't take pics...which means I can't remember.) FWIW, the location of the batteries might be another consideration for whether a rear, PS exterior hatch is worth the extra $$.

Fred and Dora have the regular bench type and we have the u-shaped. From speaking with Fred we are both very glad we got hatches on both sides in the back of the trailer. I remember after we ordered our trailers that someone told us both what a waste it was to get those. So glad we had already ordered them because in our case at least, it would have been bad advice to not get them because of how, and how much we use them.

Glad it's working out for you...I think I finally found a 2nd thing I'd do differently if I were ordering a new one.
