F150 drinks cooler option

There's tons of options on the market for folks wanting a few cold drinks in their tow vehicle while travelling. Among them there's the Dometic CCF-T line made to fit in the console of certain Ford and GM pickups.

I'm in no way affiliated with Dometic but through an acquaintance was offered an opportunity to install a "pre-production / first off tool" version in my 2022 F150, thought I'd share just FYI, maybe of interest to someone here.

The currently available model does not fit the Gen 14 (2021-2023) F150 due to some changes in the Ford console shape, Dometic is developing this version for the later F150, aiming for release this fall.

All of the Dometic CCF-T refrigerates are a compressor type using a Secop branded and labeled 12-VDC sealed compressor. They are connected to an existing 20A fused power-port but have their own 10A fuse. The actual load is ~5.6A when first cooling and drops to ~4.2A when it's cooled-down. It shuts itself off if the line voltage drops below 12volts as a vehicle battery-protection feature.

It holds six 16-oz bottles or nine 12-oz cans. I often carry 20-oz sports drink bottles; it holds four of those with space remaining for another couple of 12-oz cans (there’s a step-up in the bottom passenger side of the cooler cavity).

I've been using it for about 2 months and it keeps drinks very cold, I can only detect the slightest fan sound when my truck engine is off and the console lid open, no detectible sound at all when driving. It's working as advertised, I've found no fault or basis for complaint.

The MSRP is $600 but they're sometimes on the Dometic Store on Amazon for ~$450.

Full Disclosure: I paid $zero for this pre-production model with no quid-pro-quo of any sort; I was just in the right place at the right time, the Dometic design / production team had this one unit available 'looking for a home'. The final version will likely have slightly different surface textures / embossing.

Nice
I wired one of my upfitter switches in my RAM and extended the cable to under the back seat termination into a 12 volt cigarette lighter style connector. We purchased a smaller compressor fridge, bodega I think is the brand. We have used it all summer on a cross country trip. Not only does it keep drinks cold, we use it on grocery store runs to keep food cold when transporting back to the fridge. Also acts as an overflow fridge or freezer. I paid a bit over 220 during prime day, most of these Chinese various branded fridges use the same or similar compressor components. We looked at the larger dometic, but it was 800. The one you listed looks interesting and is small and nicely integrated. Ours sits on the flat floor in the back of the ram and it comes with a ac adapter for home use or outside the trailer. Lots of choices in this realm and has been extensively discussed. The upfitter switch provides a convenient off on switch and is a fused circuit.

Net idea but we already have a small Rtic ice cooler that gets placed behind the drivers seat for drinks and snacks while driving. For my seat position it fits on the floor with the rear seat in the down position.

I showed the cooler to Gertie. She said that if I replaced her comfy travelling bed with the cooler she'd chomp on me from toe to head. Actually it'd be more like toe to ankle but she's a little dog who thinks big.

When we test drove the F150 and I flipped open the console. I think that the salesman thought we were joking when we said that it'd be the perfect place for Gertie.

Took the truck home, threw in her bed and she said, not bad, it's a deal. So I took off the console lid and it's been her travelling bed from Alaska to Baja and Vancouver to Newfoundland.

So, while the cooler looks like a nice unit, around here it's no sale.

Well, that would be a toy breed and I’m afraid I would be tempted to get two.

I didn't realize how many new trucks have gone to the dogs lately! Cute spot, but does Gertie ever lick your arm while you drive? That would drive me crazy.

Luckily she's not an arm licker. We've always travelled with pets and our conclusion is that pets are happy just to be with their owners. She'll happily snooze in her little den for hours and every once and awhile wanting a little bit of lap time. Passenger side, not driver's.

RE: Not an arm licker.... yas, for sure.
Back on topic - I bought this portable cooler for ET19 not long ago as a precautionary hedge against an RM8551 failure.

Those compressor coolers are the way to go.

All the cool kids have them.

They reduce the number of regular fridge openings, and they let you explore the freezing temperature of beer. (Depends on the alcohol content)
