North Texas Camping Find

We made a great camping find I had never heard of Palo Duro Canyon State Park in northern Texas. We needed to be in Fredericksburg Texas for my father in law's 90th birthday celebration. We made a trip out of it. Left L.A. area and headed out 40 to Williams Az. and the Grand Canyon. Then on to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Searching the interweb for a site around Amarillo I came across Palo Duro Canyon State Park, second largest canyon in the U.S. I had never heard of it, and it was beautiful. Spent two days there and had a great stay. If you are ever in the area, it is definitely worth a stop.

Palo Duro Canyon is a great state park! Since it's so far out of the way it's easy to get a campsite (at least in the winter).

Enjoy,

Perry

I was there in 2015. I think this particular hike is the most scenic one in the canyon.

Do they charge an entrance fee when camping? I could not tell on their site.

Yes, you pay a per-person Entrance Fee at TX parks when camping unless covered by your TPWD Parks Pass; there may be a few exceptions, not at Palo Duro as I recall.

Entrance Fees: https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/p.../entrance-fees
Notes
Information and prices can change. Parks charge a daily entrance fee in addition to any facility fees, unless otherwise stated.

Thanks for the tip!

We are heading that way down to Dallas to see Daphne's family in late March and we are looking for places to stay either on the way or the way home.

Last at Palo Duro in 2010, but it is a nice place and would like to go back sometime.

No worries, it is a wonderful park well-worth both entrance and camping fees, IMO.

I'm working on plans for my retirement trip. Right now the plan is to head through Texas to New Mexico via Florida. Or something like that.

Under 12 months to go.
