Plastic Vinyl Liner

I'm considering the purchase of an Escape 21. It appears to be a very high quality travel trailer and is just enough larger than my Casita to make camping much more comfortable. However, I'm a little concerned about the durability of the vinyl insulation liner. My previous experience with vinyl coatings on insulation is that it becomes very brittle and cracks around windows where it is exposed to UV light over long periods of time.

Has anyone had issues with the liner either from exposure to sunlight or mechanical abrasion/cutting?

Final question: what is involved with replacing a damaged liner?

Thanks for your help,
John C

Welcome John, to our Escape world. As far as durability, there are several Escapes more than 10 years old without any vinyl issues. The vinyl is not exposed to the sun because it is inside and the windows are tinted, I'm not aware of any aging issues with it.

I’ve owned a 2005 17B for two years prior to current 2015 19. No issues with the vinyl liner on either of them. Current one still looks brand new, 6 years in Nov.

Having been on the forum from almost "Day 1" the only issues I recall with the vinyl liner has been some sagging. Apparently caused by areas missed during the adhesive process. Easily repaired and I can only recall one or two instances.

There seems to have been several instances of damage to the liner. Always something self inflicted, Cannot recall the reasons or solutions.

In my opinion the vinyl liner is a non issue.

Besides our Escape, we still have our original 1977 Scamp with the original Ensolite insulated vinyl liner (before Scamp started using rat fur). It is still in good, solid shape and not a concern.

You can always contact Escape and ask about the quality of the liner.
It was my understanding that it was aircraft grade...but I have no documentation to support that.

Vinyl in our 2010 is like new. I don’t see having any issues. The vinyl is durable and easily cleaned. I’ve cut it several times for projects (range hood vent, spray port) with a sharp utility knife. Incidental damage would be rare unless you are really tough on the trailer.

The day that I was loading our camper for an upcoming trip and dropped a diet coke which then spewed all over the ceiling and walls, was the day that I was most glad that Escape uses that vinyl rather than some sort of carpet.

Easy to clean after smushing mosquitoes on the walls and ceiling.

I noticed two areas where the vinyl is sagging in the 17B I purchased last October. Hoping the little problems don't grow bigger in time. Advice, anyone?

Thank's for the input

My wife was very concerned about the liner. Now we have to decide between an Escape 21 and an Oliver.

Good Grief!
