Utah Awaits
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have to cancel our trip to Utah. First, I want to thank David Murphey for being the such a great mentor. Without his guidance, I can flat guarantee this trip would never have gotten off the ground. Thank you, thank you, thank you David.
Here's the lowdown.
1. Capitol Reef National Park - Fruita Campground - Arrive: March 27/Depart April 1
2. Thousand Lakes RV Park - Arrive: April 1/Depart: April 5
3. Kodachrome Basin State Park - Arrive: April 5/Depart: April 11
4. Homolovi State Park - Arrive: April 11/Depart April 14
Here's what David wrote with respect to working the system.
Both the national and Utah state parks have a means to transfer a campsite reservation to another person without having to cancel the reservation, and there is no transfer fee involved. What I have done that seems to be working well is to make a post on the forum letting people know what parks and dates I have available and asking anyone interested to PM me. Whoever responds first I contact and arrange to make the transfer. There is a different process for the national parks vs. Utah state parks which I will describe below. In both cases, the reservation will get transferred to their name and you will need to arrange for them to send payment to you for the cost of the reservation.
National Parks
Forward your confirmation email that has all the reservation details to the person who will be taking it over. They can then call recreation.gov at 877-444-6777 and arrange to have the transfer done. They will need to provide the confirmation number and your email address from the original reservation, and then provide all their own information. Recreation.gov will transfer the reservation and send a new email to them with the reservation now in their name. If whoever takes over the reservation does not have a senior pass and you got the senior discount on your reservation, they will get charged the difference when they do the transfer.
Utah State Parks
You will need to get the new person's name, email address, mailing address, phone number, type of trailer/length, number of people, and any pets. Then call the Utah State Parks reservation center at 800-322-3770 and tell them you need to change the reservation to a new primary user. They will get all the info from you and then will email an updated reservation confirmation to you, which you can then forward to the new user.
I'd prefer all communications after the initial PM to go by conventional email and/or a phone call. Thanks.
