Window comparison

I want to know. Just the facts please. I know it”s a personal choice between framed and frameless windows and there are many opinions and reasons for each. I want to know how the windows compare in the actual ventilation area.

I have frameless windows in my 5.0 TA. The kitchen window is 20” x 27” it opens 4”
4” X 27” = 108 Square inches
The sides taper from 4” to 0 at the top, making a triangle 4” x 20” tapering to 0
Put the two triangles together makes a square 4” x 20”
4” x 20” = 80 Square inches
Add those together 108 + 80 = 188 Square inches of actual open area.

The schreen inside measures 22 ½ “ x 14 ½ “ which would be 326 Square inches

What about someone with sliders. Measure your windows and see what we get.

I know there are variables. Such as framed when open are approximately ½ the window , but the face of the slider is open. Maybe better in a breese? But ½ the area

Frameless open at bottom and sides, face of window not open, but i think they might have more actual open area.

Another thing about windows to consider is the view.
Sliders have the metal frames in the middle obstructing the view
Frameless have a slightly more open view. But that's another discussion!

For us really don’t need to measure . When it was announced Escape was going with frameless . Went to RV lot and sat in rv’s next to each other , one frameless , the other sliders . That was the answer for us , the sliders gave more air ventilation. It was a hot day to boot . Tried several more and got the same result .So we are very happy with the sliders . Do have kitchen and escape window that are not sliders .
Prefer function over supposed better looks . Pat

Not meaning to be rude but I think that your rational is suspect.

Aerodynamics is a tricky matter and despite sometimes ads for fans etc. showing stylized air flow that zigs and zags in the perfect pattern, real air flow doesn't perform like that.

A down facing opening doesn't get nearly as much flow of air as an opening directly facing the breeze.

As Pat said, the best test is to sit in both types with the windows open. You can also use a piece of tissue dangling in the center of the space and observe which window has a better flow of air.

Seems to me, with the fan on "out" you would feel more of a movement thru a 4" opening being pulled inside than the entire window being open and the suction spread out over the entire opening.
