Adding 4-way flat trailer connector

I have the need to add a 4-way flat trailer connector at the rear of my 17A.

I see two possible options:
1) Utilize the gang junction box near the front of the trailer, buy a long 4 wire harness and find a clean way to route it to the rear of the trailer.
2) tap into the back of the rear lights from under the back storage box, drill another hole in the fiberglass floor and route the wires outside to the back.

Anyone been down this path and have lessons learned or advice?

Thanks!

Gerald

This adapter plugs into your 7 pin and provides both 7 pin and 4 pin connections for the purpose you want. You need a long extension pigtail to reach the back of the trailer, but not really any longer than trying to tie into the junction box.

This corresponds to your option #1.

For 4 pin pigtail from the factory they spliced in at the back of the trailer under the bed before it went out to the lights. On the 17 check under the rear dinette seats for wiring. Assuming you can locate it the job shouldn’t be too difficult. They had two wires paired incorrectly because they just wired in based on color but they are different on 7 pin vs. 4 pin. Read this to avoid confusion

Thanks!

Viajante/Rubicon - thanks so much for the help! Both good suggestions.

All things considered, I'll lean towards splicing from inside and dropping the wires thru the floor and out back. I appreciate the clarification on the wiring colors as that would have tripped me up.

FYI. You will probably find the yellow at the rear of the trailer for left turn/stop. You will tie into that with yellow from 4 pin. Escape typically changes from red to yellow at the junction box up front. So you’ll just need to tie your brown from 4 pin into green (for tail lights), tie your green from 4 pin into brown (for right turn/stop), white to white for ground and you’ll be set.
