Re: altering the thermostate
I met a few Escape owners at the North Oregon Gathering this weekend. One of them was a lady named Louise who clamed to have reduced the gap to give better temperature regulation. I have not had the time to investigate how she altered the "deadband" or "hysteresis." Last time I looked at a electro-mechanical thermostat, it had a bowed glass tube filled with air and a drop of mercury. the bow was oriented into an inverted, but very shallow U. This bulb was attached to a bimetallic coil and the mercury would either sit at one end of the bulb, where it would make an electrical connection, or the other end, where it would not. The shape of the bulb created the hysteresis characteristics, and was in no way adjustable.
I will look myself, and then contact Louise. But not tonight and not tomorrow.
