A few of my SanDisk Clip Jam MP3 players stopped working after being plugged into a captain's light USB port.
I pulled the light out and took it apart.
The cheap USB USB buck converter had a fried chip and was frying the MP3 players.
At this point you have 2 options: replace the buck converter or buy a new captain's light.
I did both.
* New Captain's Light *
I started with this option and put 2 new ones at the "head" of the bed in our 21NE. These lights are warmer (more yellow) than the originals. They are dimmable and you can have a blue ring night light (or not).

* Replace the buck converter *
The original converter is real cheap and can be ordered from China for pennies. But it is also cheaply made.
I got some from Amazon:

that have much better input/output protection.
If you are careful and drill 2 holes in the lid you can use the same case. The new converter is smaller so I added daubs of hot melt glue to hold it.
I asked my son design a new case that I 3D printed. This is a nicer option and I am doing the rest of the lights this way.
I am now replacing all USB ports with this so that I don't kill any more MP3 players!
