Gravel Guard under trailer

I previously posted this on the Facebook Site. Thought I'd load it up here in case anyone missed it.

The truck bed spray applied to the foam insulation did not hold up to gravel roads. Had chunks chipped of by gravel. I'd previously applied truck bed liner to the insulation, but it didn't hold up. Did this modification to protect it better. Mounted a piece of reinforced rubber roofing to a 1-1/2 angle iron using self tapping screws. Then to the frame just in front of the insulation. This should work!

Nice job.

When I bought my Boler, it had a hole in the front of the grey waste tank, apparently caused by rocks kicked up from the road. After fixing the tank, I built a similar guard for the tank, using truck mud flaps cut to an appropriate length. Mine is attached to a crossmember which hold up the front of the tank, it's a different trailer so that was available to me; I used perforated angle which made bolting it together easy. In the end, mine isn't as tidy.

Yea, I don't think this is an isolated incident. I tore off a water tank on my R-Pod when I hit a tire peel off. I got this insulation not just for the insulation, but also to protect the tanks.

I was lucky in that my brother has access to the roofing material and self taping screws. Wow...with a power driver didn't have to pre drill any holes. Just screwed right through the angle iron.

I hit a road gator and a 2x4 at highway speeds, tore up the insulation a bit on the front of the fresh tank but no damage, so the foam is good for at least that.
