Replacing regular keyed lock on door on 5.0

Thinking of going the keyless route which models work on this 2021 5.0?

From a recent video on the 5.0 it appears the lock they use is made by Bauer. Maybe someone with the 5.0 and keyless lock option can confirm. Others may work as well. A few members have retrofitted ones by RVLock.

Go RV Lock. Not sure if it is the same model for all, though. I replaced a Bauer with an RVLock and it was obvious how much better built the latter is, plus the door works better with it. Not horribly hard to replace but a little tricky to fit into the opening.

Go out and look and see if your lock has blown away today. LOL

Still there, still working, but the ferries are currently not running (not sure about the next one.) So far no Escapes have tipped over.

I replaced my standard lock with an rv lock that was on sale as refurbished. Works flawlessly and took 20 minutes to replace. One of my best mods

The problem I had with RV Lock is the plastic backplate. This is the part you pull on to close the door from the inside. We were full timing and using the door frequently every day. When you pulled the door closed by the plastic handle it would flex a bit. Our door is well sealed and it takes a bit of effort to fully close it. Over time that frequent flexing of the plastic part resulted in a crack forming and eventually the part failed. It was a bit over a year since we bought it and out of warranty. Not impressed. It would probably be fine for occasional use but full timing caused a premature death.

Having used this for lock for 5 years now I have never found a weakness to the plastic pull. I even checked it right now.

I do have a spare part from replacing the lock when thieves busted to outside handle trying to break in. They never got through the lock, and busted the door window instead. [emoji849]

Our 2020 19’ came with the Bauer lock. We found it to be extremely stiff, to the point that it was nearly impossible for arthritic hands (one of us has moderate arthritis). We replaced it with the RV Lock and are happy with the change. Our prior trailer had the RVLock and it seems somewhat higher quality.

We opted for the keyless entry on our 21NE and are very happy with it. It is Bauer and it has steel, not plastic, handles.

Here's a photo of the backplate that failed. The crack extends from the top almost all the way to the bottom. The part you pull on is to the right.

RV Lock

We purchased the RV Lock for our 5.0 TA on sale before we picked up our trailer in Sumas this April. We also bought 3 locks keyed the same as our door for exterior hatches instead of the universal CH751 locks. We find it very convenient to have one key for easy access. We also have a 2019 Ford 150 and the code for both truck and trailer keypads is the same - easy to remember for our aging brains.

Something else about the RV Lock that bothered me was the keypad. After much use it developed indents on the numbers used so it was possible to determine what numbers are used in the combination by just looking at the keypad. Of course, the sequence wouldn't be known but the digits were obvious. I don't recall what the combination was on this lock but from the photo I can tell it used 2, 4 and 5.

We change our code every year. All the numbers have that indentions on them so it’s a non issue for us.

I wish the lock had lasted for more than a year.

RVLock v4 - nice upgrade

Mary replaced our ETI OEM key-only lock yesterday with the RVLock v4. The v4 is all metal. This is a nice upgrade. We did need to slightly enlarge the opening to make it fit.

The original ETI keyed lock has "www.rvlocksandmore.com" on the inside.
