Switching the placement of the stove and sink
Question,
For those of you who have swaped the location of the sink and stove in an Escape 19' - what advantages were gained and what downsides did you experience?
For those of you with the standard layout, do you wish you had made the change?
I'm sure there is no right or wrong way to have the stove and sink arranged just wanting some input on how you like your particular setup.
Thanks

I did not want the stove next to the bed and did not want the vent hood protrusion issue. I switched so that the sink is next to bed. I also felt the stove being closer to the door and Maxxair would help. I also had the extra window installed as an opening window, best thing I did for ventilation, particularly in winter.
I would suggest though that you forgo the 3 burner stove and stay with the 2 burner, more counter space. Also I removed the stove cover and use a wooden oak cutting board cover, a lot more versatile.

What was the location of the extra window? On the wall behind the stove or sink?

It is in the middle, between the two. Reace says that he can not place it directly in front of stove due to the blind being a fire hazard. So it is amidship.

We have the standard layout with 3 burned stoove and oven, its not big deal but if I was to do it again I would switch the stove and sink to get the stove closer to the max fan and delete the range hood fan. I would keep the oven and three burner stove though. Jim is right about the opening window in the kitchen area, ours originaly came with a non opeing window and I had it switched out for the opening one and realy like it.

Our layout is standard. We wanted the sink and counter extension close to the door for ease of dish cleanup and returning items from outside the trailer. Work flow ( left to right) is the same as at home.

With my combo sink/stove, the stove is on the left, so it was a no brainer for us. The layout works great for us.

For the amount of time I use the stove in my 17B, I sometimes wish I had gone for a 1 burner stove & a larger sink. While it might not be practical for others, since I do most of my cooking on a combined grill/stove outside, it would make washing dishes easier...

Jim,
I agree the widow directly behind the stove would not be a good idea. Nice to know it can be located further back on the passenger side of the trailer.

Thats a very good point Jon. We opted for the 3 burner stove and so far have only boiled water inside the trailer.
We often wish the sink, stove and washroom was on the fridge side so our outdoor shower could be used for doing dishes on a folding table.

Actually with the hot'n'cold water right there under the sink, adding an exterior hookup there would not be that hard to do.

Though only issue with a larger sink is the amount of water required to use it. Really only a concern when boondocking, but that is what we mostly do. That said, I just use a small plastic dishpan outside most of the time.

I use the outside shower & a plastic dishpan quite a bit, and while one could use more water with a larger sink, I tend to use "Navy Shower" techniques rather than filling the sink.
I currently have a hospital wash basin that is exactly the same size at the sink interior, and use a small amount of water in it to do dishes. While limiting the amount of water I use, it also allows me to dump the used dish water in the toilet, extending the length of time I can go before filling the grey tank.
A larger sink wouldn't have to use more water, just make it easier for large pans, bowls, etc.

We too are big on just doing the sponge bath thing. Saves lots of water, and gets you nice and clean. Learned this while doing 1-2 week excursions into the backcountry, that how nice a liter of warm water and a small cloth can make you feel.
We do the same with dishes, but just throw the dishwater into the trees, as we are usually boondocking.
We don't really have anything for big pans and bowls though. Our packing has been optimized for size of cookware, dishes and accessories.
A bit off topic, but we just picked up a set of Magma Nesting Cookware, that looks to be of as good of quality as our stuff at home (or better). Fry pan, stock pot, three smaller pots, two removable handles, and two lids all nest into one nice bundle. There is also a colander coming out right away that nests with the set. We can now leave a few serving bowls behind too. We haven't even used them yet, but sure are looking forward to. I will do up a bit of a review then.

That cookware looks real nice, but I'd feel I would have to use them which means work. Just call me Maynard G.

I see a "Teflon" logo. Does that mean they are non-stick?
Despite my best efforts, I go through any non-stick pan in about 4 months.

LOL... Yes, effort is required to use them.

They are coated. We have lots of Teflon coated cookware that has lasted many years. My backcountry cookset has seen tons of use (and abuse) over the last 10 years, and is still working great.
At home we have a couple nice cast iron pans, but they are too heavy and cumbersome to bring in the trailer.

Jim, these look great.
Did you find these locally?
If not where did you buy they?
Thanks

Ian, I bought them from at Binnacle - your online marine store. They had them on sale ($30 off). Shipping is free.
MAGMA NESTING COOKWARE SET 10 PIECE TEFLON COATING Binnacle.com
Magma has good quality stainless BBQ's too. It was a consideration when I was looking, though preferred the Dickinson Spitfire 180 for specs and size.
