21c gen1 sliding screen door...

My sliding screen door needs some TLC after 10 years....

First, it has a rip near the top of the slide bar

And 2nd, one of the screws holding the track to the floor won't stay down, keeps backing out and blocking the slide thing.

How do you replace the screen and with what type and size of screen? And, what sort of goo should I use to get that screw to stay in?

I'm on the road for 2 more months so nothing is going to happen before I get home

The traditional fix for loose screws is to put a couple of tooth pick size splinters of wood in the hole, add a drop of glue and put the screw back in. The glue isn't strictly necessary.

Tooth picks work great.
The glue I like best is JB Weld. I mix a little up, roll the toothpick in it and then stick it in the hole. I stick as many round toothpicks as will fit in the hole ( I break the first toothpick in half and the first one fat side down then the rest with the tapered ends down.)
After its dried I predrill a pilot hole for the screw, if you put the screw in while the glue is still wet you wouldn't need to pre drill. I have yet to have a screw pull out doing it that way. And it's something that is easy to do while traveling.

Clean off any excess JB Weld before it drys, it easier then snading it later.

Never done a screen door.

John: All the info you need is in the post linked below. You need a Seiki Vista Plus screen. Let me stress Vista PLUS not just Vista. The link in my post goes right to the order page

If you need any other screen parts this is the parts page for the Vista Plus screen

To remove the screen you remove the top bar and then you want to snap the vertical screen housing off it’s connector piece. It takes quite a bit of twisting force. Like the photo shows but obviously the opposite direction as that is an install graphic. You do not have to remove any door framing or bulkhead pieces the screen hardware is attached to.

I’ve done two replacements. It’s a little tricky but just take your time. Reading the instructions I linked in the post above will help even if they aren’t exact for our application.

I have done this twice since my dogs figured out they could slip out the bottom of the closed screen. You don’t even need to buy a replacement. There is plenty of screen rolled up inside. Remove the screen per the instructions provided above, cut off the damaged end, sew a new casing and replace the rod, then reassemble! I figured this out after I already bought a replacement screen so still have that in case I need it someday.

Our Vista Plus screen door seems so delicate in use I live in fear of the day it will need replacement. So I am relieved to see the replacement screens are still available. I am tempted to order one as a spare before they decide to discontinue them again.

The price is listed as $88 but with delivery fee and then converted to Canadian dollars the price is nearly twice that.

Has anyone in Canada ordered one lately? There is a flat rate $20 USD delivery fee. Since it seems to be an international delivery, will I face a brokerage fee for it to be delivered by courier? Such hidden and unreported fees are the bane of some courier deliveries to Canada and can be substantial.
