This argument will go on forever. Because of the trademark only Sure Tech Brands can legally advertise "Duck" tape for sale. In reality it became popular because in WWII it worked "like water off a duck's back", not a duct's back.

The kitchen window on our Escape 21 would work itself open while traveling
We tried and use the Jim Norman pool noodle method to keep the window closed
The fix was inexpensive and it works well now we only need to find a way to computerize it and add bluetooth !!

Is this a problem that can happen to siding windows or the escape window on a classic escape? Or is it limited to the new style awning windows?
I always lock my windows before traveling but on occasion I’ve been tempted to leave a window partially open for air circulation. Now I know why I shouldn’t!!

This issue only relates to awning style windows. Sliders are pretty much bomb proof and the only issue with leaving one open when travelling are the obvious ones; running into heavy blowing rain or dirt road dust.

It's not ironic. Duct tape is a sticky back aluminum foil, used to tape ducts. Duck tape is a duck cloth with a sticky back.
Cotton duck, also simply duck, sometimes duck cloth or duck canvas, is a heavy, plain wovencottonfabric. Duck canvas is more tightly woven than plain canvas. There is also linen duck, which is less often used.

You can leave your Maxxfan fully or partially open, if you lock it in that position. Can't remember at the moment if you push or pull the knob to lock ( see your manual ).

The first two issues involved awning style windows, the last one involved the escape window that all units have, in the rear on the driver side.

I think the question related to sliders vrs. awning style for strength. I put the emergency escape window in the awning category.
My pilothouse sailboat had sliders. Never worried when green seas swept down the deck when slamming into a head sea. Can't say that I'd be that relaxed with awning style.

If they are the same size, perhaps. I have only replaced framed windows which was not too hard, but the opening has to be exact.

...but aluminum foil tape used for ducts is not called duct tape (at least around here)

I lost the top part of the Campster popup on the Oregon coast highway. I didn't even know when it went- it was windy but not to where driving was dangerous, and people started honking at me. The top had popped up, and then the fiberglass top of the top had torn off and gone who knows where. (People asked why I didn't go look for it and my answer was, what would I have done? There was nowhere to stop, lots of traffic, and likely it had been ruined if it was even reachable.) But now I'm grateful for slider windows in the Escape! (But the little front window does lock closed kind of like the fan.)

I use tons of the stuff and never heard of it called duct tape either. Mind you, other than the Duck Brand, duct tape of all other brands is called....well....duct tape around here. It is funny that even Duct Brand refers to it as duct tape.
