Of course frozen ice cubes don't move around and do anything. Add a lot more water so the ice is floating and moving around a lot more and it will do a whole lot more.

As he said, the only place it did anything is where the ice and water got to. Which is D'uh of course, so more water with the ice is going to make it more effective.

A 5 gallon bucket of water and a bag of ice and a days drive to or from the campground, and I would expect it to be a lot more effective.
I use whatever chemical Wally World sells that does not contain formaldehyde. I treat the tank after dumping and only put in a portion of what is recommended...if you start to get smells add more.

In regards to cleaning the tank, I try to dump out as soon as I get home to get the most of the sloshing. I have a flushing wand I use regularly and you would be amazed at the amount of stuff that comes out and my probes work fine after that.

I often dump out at home...realize that you are only putting at most 30 gal in a 1200 gal septic tank. This should not be a problem as it is pretty dilute. Dilution is the solution to pollution. Be careful of those single serving chem packs as they are often designed for much larger tanks.
