By the way Glenn, thanks for reminding me about the weather instruments by posting a photo of them again. I'd been meaning to order them from Lee Valley but had completely forgotten. Done and on the way. Gonna use some oak as you did, and maybe route the edge with some fancy bit.

Hope you ordered ( or own ) the drill bit you need for the instruments. I took my board to a cabinet maker to drill the holes.

I have a set of Forstner bits, assorted sizes. The holes are 2 1/2 inches according to Lee Valley.

Get slightly larger diameter screws and re-insert into the same holes, taking care not to over tighten and strip the threads in the relatively thin wall board. For a little extra security to ensure the new screws do not loosen on their own, I have had success with putting a dab of woodworking glue into the holes in the plywood before inserting the screws.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer. Update, took trailer in to have 2 Hehr windows replaced by local RV repair shop. Had noticed that furnace cover was loose, just thought they could tighten screws but these screws were stripped just like the thermostat so they had to move the face slightly over & reattach.
Per your suggestions I plan to replace with a digital thermostat.

Mine have now traveled quite a few miles. They haven't worked out as well as I'd hoped. Probably they'd do better mounted in places where they don't bounce around. The clock failed fairly quickly and they replaced it. The barometer, the main reason for me to have the set, is very erratic. The needle "falls down" and it needs constant re-setting.
I know that Glen removes his from the wall when travelling and maybe that would solve the barometer issue. But, if I have to do that, then I'd consider them more of a nuisance than they're worth.

Hi Alf,
Always look at the weather instruments with shoes on because falling temps, a falling barometer or having time fly could really hurt your toes. Rolling earthquake syndrome is real and can strike at any time. You might not believe in climate change but gravity is very real.

Dave,
So true! So true! Everybody is saying so.
If it wasn't for gravity, I'd need a seatbelt on my recliner. [emoji33]
