Help - propane regulator keeps beeping

For those who have not finalized there build sheets... ETI allows customers to specify
"dual 6V batteries (225 amp hrs) CUSTOMER SUPPLYING BATTERIES".
There is no charge for this. You bring your AGM batteries to your orientation and they will install them.

Indeed. I was thinking of this today. I replaced my propane detector early in the year because it was going off for no apparent reason; I think it was one of the defective models.

Not AGM related, but today I was thinking about setting off one of those "bug bombs" to get rid of insects I've picked up. Then I thought about the propane detector. I bet it wouldn't like one of those, I thought. There's no easy way to disable the detector, either. Need to think of a way to block it.

These propane detectors often go bad within a few months, long before they are supposed to be replaced.

Mike undo the 2 screws . After you shut Power down for a few minutes , cut the 2 wires and add connectors so if you need to silence or change it out , you can discount it. Pat

When I replaced the detector I installed some spade connectors, I think. I remember having a hard time due to the cramped working space. I'm sort of afraid to mess with it because I don't trust my own wiring to be robust-- I might pull something loose. Maybe I should just tape plastic over the detector or something when I set off the bug bomb.

A man's gotta know his limitations.

Understand Mike . Ron taught me to add the connectors to make it easier to remove . It is hard getting down on the floor anymore and then you got to get up . Pat

Yeah, I know what you mean. If I have to get down on the floor to do something I look for something else to fix while I'm down there: "I could rewire this or that... my toolbox is at ground level.... you know, the view down here isn't so bad... this is my life now..."

How do I deal the battery box? I would love to be able to turn off the fan and not have the beeping.

I sealed mine up as well as I could using duct sealing putty and duct tape. Started beeping a week later. The only thing that really works is a disconnect of some sort on the alarm. Permanent fix is to bite the bullet and get AGM batteries.

You're still under warranty, might try ETI. No idea what they might try.

This is what I did on a 21. A month and no alarms even with several days of solar charging.

Mine has beeped all summer sitting in our driveway. Annoying for sure. I was kinda hoping it would just wear out/malfunction/meet an earlier than predicted 5 year doom. So far, on warm days, none of my wishes have come true.

Since moving my propane detector to the other side of the trailer in late July it has beeped only once, and I think that's because I kicked it. Granted, I've been on shore power for most of that time, so the batteries have not been charging via the solar controller. I think moving it fixed the problem though, as it is now simply too far away to detect hydrogen escaping from the batteries. The traces of hydrogen should go to the ceiling before reaching across the trailer to set off the alarm.

Our propane alarm went off during the night on our recent trip. We narrowed the cause to flatlulence as it was chilli night. It was so bad I had to cut the wires after we cut a few. I now have them reconnected in such a way that they can be unattached should we have chilli again. I will have to get a switch as been discussed here. I will say that the detector saved us one night as we did a repositioning cruise on our way to the bathroom. Dian unknowingly brushed up against the stove knob and turned it on with her butt. The alarm woke us up to the smell of propane and may have saved our lives.
Our trip took us up the Alaska Highway. I have some pictures on the blog;

This concerns me I am buying a 5.0 and I don't want deal with an alarm going off all the time because the batteries vent or other non lethal occurrences anyone fixed this issue? I'm not very handy the idea of cutting wires in the middle of the night because my alarm keeps going off fills me with dread

I suspect it will not be a problem. It is my understanding that ETI has now moved the alarm further away from the battery box on the 5.0TA.

Do we know if anyone with the newly moved detector has had the alarm go off?

We.have had several false alarms, alarm sounding when the gas is turned off at the tanks and the battery box well sealed. I’ve installed a rocker switch to silence it if necessary and am carrying a new spare alarm to swap out if the alarming becomes too alarming.
