Manual tongue jack maintenance

Forum,

The tongue jack on our E19 is not functioning as smoothly as it did after 6 years. Is there a location on the jack that I have missed to grease or do these simple wear out and need replacement after a few years? If so, any recommendations?

thanks

If you could find my thread on putting a removable handle on the jack you'd see photos that would give you a better idea of your situation.

There are different levels of machine design. The tongue jack is primitive basic. It's weakest point is at the rear of the cranking shaft. The front has a bushing, the rear has a hole, no bushing, in which the shaft rotates. Primitive as it gets.

With a lot of use the hole enlarges and the gears don't mesh properly. If greasing the top end doesn't work then the jack may be worn out.

It looks like Ron's jack also has a zerk fitting to grease the lower portion
