Portable generator exhaust venting?

Hi everyone -

We have a 22-21C, picked up in January 22. I have a Generac 3000i portable generator that I am keeping in a generator box attached to the rear bumper. I am looking at exhaust venting systems to direct the exhaust up and above the top of the camper. The exhaust pipe on the Generac is 1" external diameter, and 1.25" long as it comes out of the Generic casing.

I got a Gen-Turi 120" exhaust vent system. I will need to add a 1" adapter to the system to fit it. So I can make it work, but the install instructions indicate the adapters need to fit at least 2" over the generator exhaust pipe. This system appears to be designed for fixed generators in large Class A RVs. So I want to look at alternatives if they are out there.

Has anyone installed an exhaust venting system for their fixed in place generators? I'm late 60's, bad back, and don't relish the idea of loading and unloading the generator every time we want to use it and hauling it 50-70 feet away from our camper to avoid the fumes and noise. Probably won't even be able to in 5 years anyway, so I went the fixed in place route.

Would greatly appreciate all your thoughts and ideas on how to solve this problem.

I solved it by going solar, ditched my generator 10 years ago and never looked back.

How about some sort of a device to lower the generator to the ground and a wheel kit to roll it away from the camper?.

My cousin had a bad back and had a small hydraulic “gantry” mounted on the corner of his pickup bed. With it he could load or unload heavy things with ease and used it all the time on anything he could get to the corner of the pickup bed. The other two things he always had with him were a come-along and a handyman jack.

I don't understand the desire to go up with the exhaust. That just puts the fumes closer to open windows and hatches etc.

I'd stretch it out so that the end is as far from the trailer as possible. A simple porous drop on top box would likely further kill the sound. Or a f.g. lined cylinder like a muffler.

Heard in a far off campground:
“Huh?”
“I said, Whatta you got on that Generac?
“Dual cherry Bombs when I’m not running the lake pipes.”
“Sounds tough, man”
“Glad you like it.”

Couple of things that might help you accomplish this task.

1. Take the generator to a muffler shop with the adapter(s) and they should be able to fabricate the necessary tubing for you. To help with a description of your setup, take some photos of the generator (presuming it's installed on your rig).

2. To help even further, show them this video:

If you don't have a cell phone that can do that for you, I'm sure the shop guys have something they can view it on. All they have to do is search Camco Gen-Turi install on YouTube.

3. As far as meeting the 10/2 rule for chimney exhaust, and presuming the generator exhaust pipe is 30 inches from the ground, you should have roughly 150 inches of pipe elevation from the ground to the top of the pipe. That'll give you more than 12 feet to the top of the exhaust pipe. Considering the highest point of your trailer is the A/C unit, the pipe exit will be 3 feet or more above it.

When you have the chance, pics and impressions when you use it would be great. Better still - sound measurements even better.
