There's a bit of taper in the bench faces and rails. If you measure the distance between the rails across the back, and then the front, you'll notice they aren't exactly the same. So, the table was built to accommodate that, and only goes in one way. The slight taper is hard to see, but it's there.
It shouldn't pose a problem. There's still enough support along the front without the corners of the table.
