Last trip, one of the black burner plates on the replaced sds2 was detached. From what I can see, there are two screws that hold it in place from underneath. There is a metal shield underneath that looks like it would need to be removed? Anyone have thoughts & steps on how to tighten it back on or is this something I shouldn't mess with?
The bottom aluminum plate is easily removable, two machine screws. Not quite as easy to put back with the stove in place as they're short and you have to hold the aluminum guard in place and get one of the screws started. Not impossible but a bit awkward. I replaced mine with longer machine screws, much easier for my clumsy fingers to hold. Then I wind up a nut to tighten.
We had one of our burners fall off on our cross country trip. If I recall correctly, I had to take the mounting stand off the burner, mount that to the base of the stove, then mount the burner to that. It was easy, it just had to be done in a specific order because one of the screws couldn’t be reached otherwise.
Thanks for your replies. Today I rescrewed the plate. Pretty easy BUT I removed the heat shield. The side to the right had no screw, so it was held by only one screw. Have to go get another screw. What length would you suggest as these are so hard to get in place in that area. TIA
I use a 1" machine screw. 8-32 I think but possibility 6-32. The extra length is like a handle for my fat fingers, easier to hold than the factory small short screw.
I get it started then turn the nut until it's tight. Much easier to handle in that awkward location.
Any hardware store has machine screws, take one with you to compare.

Is this one of the Suburban stoves covered by the recall notice? There is a video posted on the Escape YouTube page that provides a pretty good step by step for removing and reinstalling the stove top.
