The QShip gets a new toilet valve

On our way home from Sumas there was a little water on the floor of the bath. The pump would also burp briefly, but I was unable to find the leak. Finally narrowed it down to the toilet valve, which had apparently been tightened too tight during the build. (I suspect someone used pliers to tighten the plastic water inlet nut, should only ever use hand tight).

For anyone with a similar problem, it is a very easy job: Turn off the water and unscrew the supply line at the wall. Remove the two nuts holding the toilet to the floor and simply lift the toilet and take it outside (for more room to work). The old valve is attached to the toilet with one (gold) screw and a small pointed plastic piece which is pushed up out of the retaining hole. That is it.

Reverse the steps to install the new valve. For ease of re-installation attach the supply hose to the toilet, hand tighten only. Replace the toilet gasket with the new one provided. Place the toilet on the mounting studs, tighten mounting nuts (do not over tighten) and attach supply line to wall inlet.
Entire job took about 20 minutes, only wrench and screwdriver needed. No leak, no burp. ETI supplied the new valve free, and Pat was very helpful with a couple of tips which I have included here.

I also had a leak at the back of the toilet when I picked up my trailer. In my case they had not tightened the hose clamps on the supply line. It was a real B***h to reach back there to tighten things up. Wish I knew it was easy to remove toilet.

Maybe they changed since 2019, but mine did not have any hose clamps at all, just a 18" length of braided hose with hose type connectors on each end.

My 2015 5.0 TA was picked up the day before the 2015 Osoyoos Rally. On the second day of the rally, I had a leak coming from behind the toilet. In those days, Reace spent most of the day walking around asking people if they had anything that needed fixing. In my case, he tightened the supply hose connection finger tight and then 1/4 turn more with pliers, and stated that a bit more than finger tight was necessary. When I had to replace the valve, when I reconnected the line I did the extra 1/4 turn with pliers. It hasn’t leaked at that connection since 2015.

Removing the toilet is usually the way to go. Our Rpod toilet leaked at the valve as well and the bath room in an Rpod 179 is probably 2/3 the size of the bathroom in a 5.0. Barely enough room to take care of business much less do maintenance. We bought a new valve and seal off Amazon and had it shipped to a campsite we were planning an being at in a few days. Also decided to replace the bowl seal at the same time.

Glad to have a composter in the 5.0. If it leaks, the only thing broken is your aim.
