Mine had the red tag attached as I see in your photo. The string goes behind the fitting and doesn't allow the slide to move far enough back. Take off the tag and the connector is much easier.

Even more different!

We find the absence of counter space can be a problem. To overcome this, I have built a portable counter unit which sits on top of the stove. It provides us with nearly 4 sq.ft. of extra workspace....
