Hi Doug, I do have a ratcheting tap holder. It's the only way to cut the threads and maintain your sanity!!!

The drilling and tapping is only into the frame. The bolts pass cleanly through the aluminum plate.

I forgot to add that the the length of the aluminum brackets are based on the 64" hose carrier that Camping World sells. I installed the slightly shorter carrier on the 17' Escape we used to have and...

I'm curious, right next to your mount is a solid looking bolt, could you have used that to secure the plate and not drilled any additional holes? Did you look at that?

I just finished changing the tube to one that actually holds a quality hose and remounted it farther forward. I'll post some pictures after work tonight.
