I had a 2012 FJ and towed my Escape 19, I had to use a weight distribution hitch also as the rear dropped 2" and my head lights were too high. I think the FJ's motor and trans and frame can handle...

There are about 6 pictures with the rear open, either sideways or flip up, 2 way opening rear hatch is very unique.
