My guess is your experience was based on the salesman you dealt with more than the brand. I walked into my local Ford dealer and said I wanted to order this specific F-150 and handed him the specs....

Yup, payload is almost always the limiting factor. Please check the door jam stickers on the trucks you look at. Payload is the main reason I went with an F-150.
