I like that the thermostat for my classic 17B is located at the rear dinette/bed because I can lift my arm out from under the covers and turn it up in the morning. Would be classified as a 'first-world problem'.

It makes a big difference if you mount a television below the thermostat. The heat from the set screws up the temp control in the trailer. Moving the thermostat to the dinette area makes sense.

It might make sense, but it now requires someone in bed to walk all the way to the other end of the trailer to make an adjustment. And all the way back!

Upgrade to the bluetooth version of the thermostat. With it, you could turn on the A/C or heater from outside the trailer.

Interesting. Bluetooth is an inherently insecure protocol. I wonder if Dometic has taken any measures, eg pairing, to prevent just anyone within range from monkeying with it. I know that I can access, and theoretically alter, the settings in my neighbor’s fancy Bluetooth-enabled Victron battery monitor. [emoji848]

Yeah, that could be up to four steps each way. LOL

We just set our thermostat for 14°C (57°F) when the last person gets in be (usually me) goes to bed, and the first person up (usually me) sets it to 18 or 19°C (64 or 66°F).

That's what I do. Lots of flexibility to turn it down for hot flashes, up in the morning, down when the two dogs crowd me, up when they jump off the bed...there isn't just one setting and leave it.

You have to read the pairing code from the thermostat display and enter it into the phone app to pair it.

Jim, you are up in the bed loft and forgot to set the thermostat. Or a cold front came in during the night and a little heat would be nice.

Now you have to climb down from the loft without tripping on the stairs, set the thermostat where you want it, and then climb back in bed.

Wouldn't grabbing your cell phone from bed and doing the changes without getting out of the covers be better?

I like bluetooth!

Thermostat is in the loft on our 5.0 TA, just slide down.

I should clarify. The thermostat is on the far side of the bedroom.

If the thermostat is too far away from the heat it may get too hot in some areas and remain cold in other areas. I guess they moved it when they moved the furnace forward.

Todays photos, almost complete...10 work days weeks appears to be the finishing time frame, other than the fiberglass portion.

Good looking trailer, Jim!

Are you planning to keep this one or still have an eye for another next year?

Off topic question - We didn't opt for AC and as a result have the analog thermostat that wakes us up when it cycles on ("boooing!"). Would a digital thermostat such as this work as a direct replacement or would I need to do some more modifications to make it work?

The Dometic thermostat requires a control box to function that is included with the A/C. You could do it but it wouldn't be cost effective unless you planned on installing a Dometic A/C at a later date.

I would take a look at something like this

https://www.frys.com/product/8403158...QaAjiwEALw_wcB

Wifi and digital - it should work with your furnace and still connect from your phone or PC.

If you don't need the remote capabilities, this thermostat works well

Thanks for the reply! I was doing some googling people keep referencing an AC control box, so thanks for explaining. I'll take a look at digital home thermostats like you linked as it sounds like they would be "plug and play".

Not off topic in my opinion. Sleep is important.

However I've dupe posted this so it can be found.

I sleep with my head right below the thermostat. I finally replaced the analogue one with this non-programmable Honeywell, which works well. Got it at Home Depot in Park Royal. Simple installation, as I recall.

Yes, I'm getting too old for all of this excitement.... and in memory of Franklin, an end of an era.
