We download shows from Amazon to a Fire tablet and watch them with a Bluetooth speaker for sound. In the 17 you aren't far from the screen. Works for us

I have a very small external DVD player that connects to my laptop. That works for movies that might bring that are on DVD. But, like others here, most of our programs are downloaded onto my laptop or other Saturdays device. I would bet in not too long of time DVDs will be a thing of the past.

DVDs will be around a LONG time - they're the only approved medium for archive quality storage for records (as in tax returns) and we use Red Box rentals a lot when we're on the road as any McDonalds has one. Works fine when staying at a Walmart or roadside overnight.

I do watch dvds in my trailer at night after dinner I camp solo so i like to watch old movies at night I am getting the stereo with DVD from escape and attaching the tv in the standard place for a 5.0 I think by the bed. So I was wondering what size other 5.0 owners think fits well there.

Bob,
OK, went out and measured the set. It's 23" diagonal, Mfd 2007, made in Tijuana!
It will be interesting to see what yours draws.
Thanks,
Russ

Jim,
I don't know what mine weighs, but it is a lot more than 2 pounds. I would guess 10 pounds. The bracket AS uses is pretty heavy duty and stout. It has 4 rubber feet that rest against the wall to stabilize it. Also there is a gate latch that keeps it folded. It had a 14" square 1/4" steel base plate that I deemed too sturdy, which I swapped out for 3/16" aluminum to save some weight. I don't know if AS sells this bracket. There is no name on it.

Here's mine, 19" Samsung, looks to be a 2013 or 14 although I bought it new a year or so ago. Getting harder to find small tv's. Sufficient for my needs but I'd want a bigger one if I watched it more. 19" Class F4000 LED TV TVs - UN19F4000AFXZA | Samsung US

With picture on screen, 15 watts according to the kill a watt plugged into the regular 120vac

On a Magnum 1000w inverter, figures exclude a double light (.3a) and the parasitic loads (.1a). Figures from the amp display on the TriMetric.

Jack ant only .2a
Inverter only .8a
TV only 1.4 amp

2.4a to run the tv for an hour.

Thanks Bob,
that is quite a bit more efficient than ours. We'll have to have sunny days to recharge after watching ours for any length of time! The DVD player is in a Sony head unit which also draws a bit of current to add to the pain.

If you are keeping the trailer a 2nd battery may be worth while.

Thanks for posting the information, I have the same TV and use a 75 watt plug in inverter. Will likely eliminate the inverter and use 12 volt DC like Ron in BC does for his, which will eliminate the current losses 12v DC to 110 v AC back down to 14v DC. Ron posted his Samsung works just fine with 12 v DC.

Yes, and I was happy about that.

The only thing I want to do is change the angle the coax cable attaches to the rear of the tv. It projects straight out and when I stow the tv against the wall the cable is bent almost 90*. I can see that it could, sooner or later, cause a problem. I see on eBay there's packages of 10 90* fittings. That's a little more than I need so I'm going to try and track one down locally.

With our home DVD player we got a coax cable, the type that just presses on, that had a 90° end. I have heard some day these push on connectors at not as good, but we have had no problem with them.

Do you watch the show on the Fire tablet or are you able to transmit the show to the TV?

I read that too, but being push on is worth trying. I keep the TV in the box, and dread trying to thread the connector on the back of the TV. No room for my fat little fingers, feels like I'm wearing ski gloves.

I'll hold out for the screw on kind. With the motion of the swing arm back and forth, even with the cable tie wrapped, I think the push-on could loosen up and not make as good contact.

We have a small TV in the kitchen that we move sometimes. Its' connector faces straight down and it is extremely difficult to attach and detach the cable. I made a 6" cable up. It stays on the TV permanently. Very easy to use now

They have adapters that convert the coaxial to RCA type plugs, makes removal easier.

I guess for us it this would not be a big deal, as I plan to keep it stowed until we want to use it. Less than a minute and it is up in one of our two locations.

To be fair, I have yet to use a cable connection to the TV, just HDMI. I do plan on having it ready for regular channel type watching in the future though.

Thanks for the HD source. I don't normally think of them for things like that. We do have some good electronics stores here, I just hadn't got to one yet. Package of two. Always good to have spares.

I got 90 deg coax connector at Canadian Tire. Can't recall if it was threaded type or push on.
