Treated it like a cruise with 3 weeks inbetween sailings. My only problem was not disconnecting the trailer from the tug!!! Oops. 14 hrs. with the fridge on the battery is to long. Alf

Do the suggestions to get a cabin on the long ferry trips mean that you are not allowed to access / use your trailer while on these ferries? I realize the view is zilch, but just to sleep, for example.

Caution about reefer with propane shut off noted, thanks for that heads-up!

Hi: Centex... Passengers are not allowed on the vehicle decks after departure. Even dogs get a cabin onboard!!! We'd go back in a heartbeat. On the Rock even the garbage pails get a nice place to stay!!! Alf

Atlantic Canada has joined BC in 'biblical' floods. Best hope they can rebuild the roads before you go:

Dogs are also allowed to remain in the trailer. Since ours would be much more comfortable in her own surroundings and could "hold it" for the shorter route that's what we did.

We also took the shorter route from Sydney to NL. Our dogs both did fine in the trailer with the help of a bit of doggie downer from the vet. We are comfortable leaving them in the trailer but our travel buddies who also had dogs opted to stay in NS rather than do the ferry.
We got a cabin both ways, VERY nice for the night trip and restful for the daytime one. Icebergs sighted in July north of Cows Head. One of the RV park managers told us that there is iceberg app for tracking them. The NL tourist bureau (not sure what it is called) offers a ton of useful information. Like Alf, we would go back in a heartbeat.

The long ferry ride is really super nice if you have a stateroom. Very comfortable with your own shower etc. Great dining room as well as more cafeteria style dining. They also had a lounge with live entertainment, at least when we did it.
You also get to board the ferry long before it sails so you can get settled into your cabin. All in all like a mini cruise

Those photographers work real hard for those stunning images.
His name is Clyde Butcher. We became friends 30 years ago. It was a time when I was exhibiting in nationally juried art shows. Something like 4 years in a row, we were set up next to each other at shows in Miami and Tampa. That is how we became acquainted. His life story is inspirational.

Now you've got me going on a memory lane/ who was that fellow research project. Must have been 30 or so years ago, but I'll try and find a Nat. Geo mag and see if there are photo credits. Lot's of anhinga birds on display at Corkscrew Swamp that day, up high in the trees and drying their wings, all fully spread out. But my memory is certainly a little hazy, and may be filling in details with confabulations.

Thanks for the lead.

Okay. We are going to take the one to Port aux Basque! Eight hours is enough! It was amazing to find out how many vehicles they could stuff in that ferry.

I'm pretty sure it was Clyde. He was a mountain of a man. Now he has serious health problems. His black and white photographs of the Everglades harken back to a time before this area was despoiled. His work is in major collections throughout the world.

Hi: Telescopist... One of the ferries... the Atlantic Vision I believe is much larger than the others. It's the one we took for the 14 hr. crossing to Argentia/ St. John's. Alf

And I recall a trim, 6 foot tall, casual dressed fellow. Like I said, my memory is a little hazy on things 30 years ago. Our Corkscrew swamp encounter was in March, 1992.

Hi: gbaglo... What happens to the hole when the road is gone? For those travelling to the Rock and visiting St. John's area, stay at Pippy Pk. campground. We sure wished we had!!! Alf

So that wouldn't have been Clyde then. He was big enough that alligators had sense enough to stay clear of him when he was waste deep in swamp water. His largest format camera is 12x20! The result are these incredibly dense, rich, images.

We saw an exhibit of his work in Florida winter of 2019. Was an excellent show.
