Re: Damaged Escape 19 For Sale
Matt, keep us posted of the progress during your rebuilding of the trailer.
It really should not take too much to dry it out, especially if there are no cushions inside. What you are doing should work fine.
What does it take registration wise to put a trailer that was written off back on the road?

Re: Damaged Escape 19 For Sale
Hi: memobug...Matt; I think the bunk/hammock is the gaucho. Reace built it strong to carry the weight of older children. There in lies the rub of difficult to put together.
Any good queen size foam mattress will fit on the platform even a tempurpedic. In our 5.0 we have an 8" thick memory foam mattress rather than the 5" one Escape uses. Alf

And this bunk hammock: Does anyone know if the gaucho option mounts on the same brackets as the hammock? I think it's cumbersome: too heavy, too difficult to assemble install and remove, too low and awkward to store.

The gaucho option for the Escape 19 is a cot/hammock style bunk. The anchor points for the gaucho mounts are actually fiberglassed into the frame for strength. As a result, the 19's gaucho is rated for up to 200 lbs unlike the convertible couch gauchos offered in other fiberglass trailers so it can actually sleep an adult rather than being limited to small kids.
Personally, I think it is a nice design. I can set it up or take it down in less than five minutes. I can easily wrap up the poles with the cot material and hold it together with a bungee and then slide it under the queen bed for storage out of the way. As for weight, it certainly isn't as light as a pillow but calling it "heavy" is a subjective opinion. IMO, I find it reasonably manageable.
Note: The other Escape models have the more traditional gaucho option which comes with the corresponding lower weight rating.

Re: Damaged Escape 19 For Sale
Matt - On a separate note, congrats on your new trailer. I hope that the repair process goes well for you & that you don't encounter any major surprises. Hopefully you'll be happily camping in it sooner than later.

Re: Damaged Escape 19 For Sale
Does anyone have pictures of the hammock that is set up? I'm trying to figure out how to add more sleeping room over the small dinette since I was not originally planning to have 4 more camping buddies. It would be used by a child under 100 pounds.

Excellent question. I expect it varies by state. I have a couple bills of sale, but I expect I'll need a safety inspection from the CA DMV vehicle verification office. I hope to be able to tell you more specifically in a month or so.
Regards,
Matt

Thanks Jeff,
I had forgotten about that. However, I am like Glenn and don't want to put holes in anything. But since the back by the window appears to have folding legs, I would imagine the front part could too.
