Hardley fits!

Before we ordered our 19 (aka "Hardley") we did a lot of careful measuring and double and triple checking with ETI to make sure that (with some minor modifications to the garage) it would fit in our garage. There was even discussion about not getting air conditioning just to be really positive that it would fit.

Sunday I helped a carpenter friend raise the header on the single stall door of our garage from 8' to 9'. This was absolutely all we could get without major surgery. It looks a little odd but I don't really care if means I can have safe covered storage right at the house.

Monday the door went in and Tuesday night was Hardley's first night inside!

Tammy assured me that it would fit in a 9' door. Let me tell you we needed every last bit of that 9' She was right but not by much, this picture was taken before the rubber trim/seal went on just to be extra sure.

With the trim piece installed the flexible rubber just barely touches the highest part of the air conditioner as we slide by. We have about 3/8"clearance to the solid wood that holds the rubber seal.

Wow, its a good thing you don't have the high lift axles!

This is good to know. I'll plan on at least 10 feet.

Raise the door

Hi Jim and Katrina
Good to see you could get your new Escape inside.
A friend of mine did this on a very similar garage and after a month you'll quit noticing the different heights. You'll really feel good when that sleet is ringing off the windows next November and she's snug as a bug in a rug.

I think it looks fine. If I can find someone to do mine that may be what I do, too. Did you just add a panel to the garage door? (After raising the header?)

trailer height

You were lucky with the 19 its 8ft 6 in. vs. 8ft 7in. for the 21 then add 5 in. for A/C unit . I think if we do build again its a 10 ft. by 10 ft. door for me .Thanks for the heads up for the 19 escape .

Our old doors weren't in the best shape so I never even thought about wether or not that was an option. We replaced both doors so that they match and to get a nicer looking finish. Of course we also had to get an extension for the opener on the single door since it was only set up for an 8' door.

We call it mission creep. It happens a lot around here. Change one door, change the other to match. Refinish the floors now the trim looks bad so redo that. Redo the trim now the walls need to be painted. Etc, etc...
