thanks for the concerns. this appears to be a professional job. the locks were not cut. it appears that a tow truck was used whereby they slip an apparatus under the tongue and are gone in minutes. all the numbers are registered with the rcmp so in all likelihood the unit is in the usa where Canadian numbers mean nothing. I can i.d this unit right away. unfortunately decals etc are the first things removed. my idea re id for the unit is to crawl under the trailer and spray paint your name etc on the bottom of the trailer as well as doing the same in other not so obvious areas. unfortunately these units will be peddled as soon as possible and the new "owner" will be the loser if trailer is found.

Another idea I have heard of is to paint (or use decals) some kind of identification on the top of the trailer. Something quickly identifiable from the air, and something nobody (including the thieves) notice right away either.

What about hiding a cheap smart phone in the ceiling of the trailer wired to a charger...sort of a poor-man's LoJack device? The phone should be able to reach the satellites through the fiberglass if you make sure it is bare above the phone. You could go online and tell where the trailer is with a few feet at all times and send the authorities to get it for you.

Too bad it has turned up. I'm sure I'd feel sick about it if that happened to me, even if it was fully insured.
Mine's stored under similar circumstances. Makes me think that a very heavy chain through the wheels and over the axle might be a good idea.

That totally sucks. Did you have the wheels locked in some fashion?

The approach makes sense, although with what you need to pay for phone service for that phone a real tracing device is probably not much more expensive. Although cell phones don't work with satellites (and there's no such thing as a cheap or cheap-to-run satellite phone), it should work fine through the fiberglass shell (as long as you don't have it on the interior side of any foil-faced extra insulation layer).

That's a good idea also. Along with the tracking device idea. Hopefully you will get yours back asap and without damage.

Our trailer always has a hitch lock on it and when it sits in our driveway I have a motion sensor in it that when someone would move it the house alarm goes off with a lot of noise near the trailer.

Me too! I wonder if LoJack works on the same principle as the tracker in the link.

Don't know if that trailer was ever found but I know it had not been some time later. The owner was paid the insurance.

I keep a hitch lock and a wheel lock on mine. They can still steal it, but it won't be easy...

With using the Anderson Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection, a thief would either have to have that set up in their truck, or minimally have a regular 5th wheel hitch, and dismantle the kingpin coupler which is solidly bolted to the kingpin.
On my 19, I never used anything but trust in my fellow man.

I talked to Andersen about a lock for the coupler. They told me they are working on one and it should be available next year.
