Myron: I've know this doesn't match your more vertical profile but I've used the Lux brand and they are very nice. Really like the size and brightness of the display.

This looks like a nice display too:

I'd be happy to find a similar clock also. I have a small one that I leave on the counter by the stove but it's not illuminated.

Still, the White Rogers digital thermostat is a huge improvement over that horrid one that came with the trailer.

Just replaced on old single stage heater in house awhile ago . It does have a really nice display . We had the older model that died and this was their replacement . Very easy to read . Sometimes hate to change out things but this was a nice improvement . Pat

Myron, search for "LED travel clock" - here's a small one you can mod:

There are lots of great phone apps for clocks. I use one called Night Clock, which displays a dimmed clock the full size of your screen. A wee charging stand to place it in, and all is great. I wear a watch, but it does not light up at night, and I like to orient myself timewise when I wake up, because if it is before 4am I usually try to go back to sleep, after that chances are not so good.

I have one very similar to that. If it had a very dim backlight that could stay on without having to push a button it'd be perfect.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Meanwhile will call my brother in law the semi pro cabinet maker who bought the clock mechanism parts someplace and built himself a beautiful mantle clock. That was half a generation ago. Maybe the same company now has it all in digital. All I need is the right size LED display and a little motherboard and a couple triple A batteries, right?

That high tech Betalight is looking good, and at 2.20+ inches square, 1.1 inch deep rather small, but might work fine even if it isn't a digital LED face. Buying from a company in the Netherlands however, sounds like it may well be priced higher than my need to see time.

I had the same thought. Something like; looks good, could do the job, what's the cost? Oh crap, overseas, probably I don't want to know.

Right. Eighty bucks is too rich for my blood. Just settled on this, on eBay, $23 shipped. Five inches wide is wider than I would like. But, it has the big red numbers I want, takes 4 double A's, is easily hung.

The new digital clock came yesterday. It’s a Kwana from China, from Kersafe. I made a slightly wider plaque for the 3 wall items. The clock is 5 inches wide. Also preferred wood a more reddish cedar, and because I am a certified wood butcher spent time obsessed with my new router bench jig for plowing recessed cavities.

Lesson learned. Do not want to attach with tape again. A nice mechanical screw hole fastened to cross bracing is the smarter way to go. Don’t want things bouncing off the wall and, a screw hole is easier to hide if the next owner needs to change things. Finding cross bracing is the big thing. There’s a horizontal brace just above the old analog thermostat, and a vertical piece about an inch and a quarter down the front.

Yup, I think I know where they are. Made a note of them when I had the fridge out "just in case".

That clock should do the job. Handier than having to shine a light on a clock or watch.

My $35 Indiglo Timex watch is on my wrist. Couldn't be handier. I can tell the time through bleary eyes, even without my glasses.

I wish I had made the same notes when I pulled my fridge out. (Who knew?) My (Costco)watch is too fancy to read in the dark. Should have went for something more geezer friendly.

It took a while, but I found this model, with no day/date to clutter the dial ( can't read it anyway ). A clean, legible face. Press the winding stem and it lights up.

Glad you found a clock . Nice and neat install . Pat
