My gas/Jerry can solution. Has a U shaped bracket and can easily be removed with one bolt if necessary.

Update: Just installed a Micro Air Easy Start on our 19s AC. My Honda EU 2000i now runs the AC no problem, even in economy mode.

The cargo rack that I'm using is a little loose in the Escape receiver so we made a couple of steel shims and put one on the bottom of the receiver and one on the side. The used a heavy duty rattle clamp to lock everything in place.

I put a high density Industrial foam pad about 1.5 or 2 inches thick under the generator. The generator is tied down tight with a ratchet strap..

I can run the generator right on the rack and you can hardly hear it with the AC running. There is a slight vibration, but I think it will no be a problem.

I've decided to carry the gas cans on the generator rack and will tie them down with ratchet straps.

I towed the trailer a few miles at highway speeds, didn't notice any difference in handling. The difference in tongue weight appears to be negligible.

It looks great, but expensive....$372!

I gave $49 for mine at Harbor Freight less the 20% coupon. I have about less than $25 in the PVC board, self tapping screws and other misc. Additionally, I have room on my rack to carry gas cans. I spent a few hours on building it, but it wasn't difficult.

Not to detract from this well-done rack, but here is a front mount solution for a decent price:

https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Cargo/St...on/CC-255.html

Anything mounted on the front tongue has a lot more effect on tongue weight, but has the advantage of not being thrown around nearly as much as the trailer pitches up and down.

Hi All,
We just purchased a 2014 21' Escape and that was one of the questions in my head, where do I carry the generator if I need it?
I had a rack made for our 17' Casita, changed the propane tanks to a side mount 30 gallon tank, flat rack welded above that and also area to install bike rack above. We have the Champion 3100 and we went on two trips with everything including the generator and it worked great.
We don't go places we use a generator very often so not the end of the world but know there will be that trip one day that say OK now I really need to figure this out. Do believe I will have to down size the generator because of weight but will figure that out I guess.

Safe travels to all,

Steve and Patty

I don't know if this is an option for you, but on my A Frame trailer during the warm season when I need A/C rather than heat, I store the propane cylinders in the outside storage area and mount my genny in their place.

I built a rack for the back of my Escape following this post and it works great for me.

Finally got pic of the generator and fuel can on the rack. We leave Friday for a month of travel in the Midwest, had to get it hooked up.

We put a 3 inch piece of high density foam under the generator to help with vibration. I also made an 8 foot cord, just long enough to reach the generator if I want to run it on the rack.

I have a cable looped around the generator/rack, through the gas can and locked to the rack.

Both the generator and gas can are strapped down with ratchet straps.

That looks like a great opportunity to test my new bolt cutter.

re: "out of sight...etc" I'd get some spray paint for that Honda generator shroud. There's a case where it doesn't pay to advertise.

I gotta be honest here. I think there are a lot of fear of generator theft. How many people do you personally know that have had a generator cut loose with bolt cutters and carried away?

I carried this generator on our sailboat, in plain view for over a year while we cruised the east coast and FL anchoring and in Marina's without incident. It wasn't even locked up. I know a lot of sailors who do this also. I know lots of campers that carry genertors and I've never heard one of the report a problem.

I've heard stories, but have never actually known anyone affected or even known anyone who actually knows anyone affected.

I'll take my chances. If it gets stolen, I'll eat my words and take a different approach.

As for the generator cover, yep, it says Honda Generator....I think it's stating the obvious.

Re "I'll eat my words, etc." That could be an expensive dinner served cold. Stand your ground. After all, you're in Florida.

True, but I think I'll be fine. It's a 13 year old generator that's seen lots of use. I won't get hurt too badly.

Want having all the weight from the generator on one side have you a little off balance or will the gas cans weigh the same as the generator? I do like 5he pic with the generator in the middle.. Seems like it would ride better.. I do understand wanting a more conducive place to anchor it down also. I really want to put mone on the back but will anchor it down to aid in it not being stolen..
