Good information Jim, thanks. In the future, I'll be more proactive about using ABS.

2014, E21 bath drain issues
My trailer's greywater bath trap is different than tdf's. My trailer had an actual trap with a drain fitting on the bottom. The drain issue was the trap was installed backwards, the trap output was about 1.5" higher than the input to the trap. The idea was to get a fall from the bath drains to the trap about 24" away. This caused the entire pipe to be about half full of greywater even if the holding tank was empty. Because the greywater could not drop into the trap any soaps, shaving cream or floating debris attached to the top of the pipe and could not pass to the holding tank. The result was the pipe was full of a stinking mess and there was nothing stopping the odor except for the bath drain plugs.
The pipe was acting as a mini holding tank. A properly installed trap has about 2 sq. in. of water surface area. The 24" piece of partially filled 1 1/2" pipe had about 30 sq. in. of surface area. It is like having a pail full of foul sludge attached to your bath drains and vent.
My Hepvo install was pretty much like tdf's but I moved the Hepvo valve closer to the bath drains to prevent residue build up and the amount of water in front of the trap.
I did have one other install issue with not being able to get the drain fitting to unthread from the tank. I just cut off the pipe about 1" out and used a no hub fitting.
I am sure the Hepvo valve will solve my issues. I just need to test how the bath drains flow when the holding tank water level is above the Hepvo valve which is about 1/2 full.
Eddie
Tank input on left. Bath drain on right. The pipe was almost completely full on the trap end all the time.

Nice job! Nice, clean finished appearance. ETI needs to add that to their Options list.

I agree. That's one issue where Escape is years behind Casita. I've added Hepvos to three trailers so far and guess I'll need to do it on my Escape as well. Luckily it's a very easy job.

Is that an option or on all trailers as a standard feature? Sink only or also shower drain? I agree with and support using the Hepvo valve, also it seems like it would simplify and speed up the manufacturing process. I have a 5.0TA which is just entering production with a July 6 completion date so I am VERY interested.

I replaced all three p-traps in my last Casita with Hepvos so that no antifreeze was needed for Winterizing, but by far the most useful one is on the shower drain.

Starting when Fred? I don't think ours has it as those powerful exhaust fans in the trailer can pull up grey tank odor on ours if I don't close the shower drain before turning one on.
You've been a good influence apparently

I asked Joldie about the HEPVOs and just got her reply.
"What you have read on the forum is in fact, true. We did begin installing Hepvo Valves in our trailer bathrooms quite recently. After 3 of the first 6 Hepvo valves began leaking almost immediately, Reace retracted this change in production.
"In order to accomplish the same result as a Hepvo Valve, we have moved the P-Trap in the floor drain closer to the shower and further away from the grey tank. This will help eliminate water from being trapped in the drain and releasing an unpleasant odor in the bathroom."

Beat me to it. I just received the same message. I wrote back and suggested they must have gotten a bad production run. On both my Casitas, my Bigfoot, and many others I've never heard of one leaking.

Interesting. 3 of 6 leaked? Perhaps Hepvo needs to check their quality.

I installed a HepVO in the kitchen sink drain. I love the idea, but the things sure are made cheaply. Hand tightening one fitting saw it jump (skip) a thread, it should not do that. I used dope and tape on a thread not intended for it, just to make it not strip out, and having installed many 100's of sinks and traps I hate that. Why the heck can't they use a bit heavier PVC, or better yet, ABS like all other fittings?

ooooh, when you finally get around to pics I want to see a pic of this mod. I really want to change the trap under my kitchen sink because it takes up too much room.
