Fixed rear window changeout for slider?
Just wondered while sitting in the rear of our 21 why ETI didn't offer a slider window option in the rear instead of just a fixed window? Wish I had thought to ask for it on the build sheet...........Anyone changed their rear window out?

Hi: tractors1... I believe it's because once the air passes over the trailer it creates a swirl and some suction that deposits the water and dirt on the window. Too much possibility of water forced into the window tracks!!! Alf

Dirt, dust, water and problems keeping the window closed during travel. You're a former Casita owner, I'm sure you've read those threads on the CasitaForum. Since both side windows open, you'll get lots of cross ventilation. Besides, it's kinda nice to look out a "picture" window without that "break" in the middle.

I wanted ETI to install a rear slider, so that I could store my kayaks, within the trailer while travelling (either in a cradle or suspended from blocks. Blocks that would need to be glassed in during the hull build.
ETI said no, for the reasons of dirt/water that are drawn in while driving.
So my kayaks travel on my truck roof, and my rear window is solid.

More proof that the stock trailer is very well thought out.

How about an emergency egress window? Not a slider, but a window that hinges at the top and has two secure catches at the bottom to keep it sealed. Our motorhome has one of these - not routinely opening (for all the reasons given earlier) and so not equipped with a screen, but can be opened to get out in case of an emergency. It is one opening panel, so it has the clear view that Donna mentioned and the largest possible open area for loading.
Hehr calls these a "full swing out egress window".
I realize that sleepy has moved on to another kayak carrying method, and the egress window is not really suitable for ventilation.

I don't know about the other builds, but the 21' and 5.0TA both have the egress window on the drivers side, rear dinette. There's a screen, so yes... it does work for ventilation. The screen is "loose" push on it and it will fall out just like it's supposed to.

I found I never had opened the emergency window--even for ventilation--so removed the screen "permanently." Wow, what a great view now.

Thanks for this information. I'd still like to carry the boats inside. So this might work (opening size and price to swap out, being the factors)

Rear emergency exit window makes a great deal of sense. If one did need to bail out it would be very handy to use the spare tire and bumper to help make it to the ground safely...........

I doubt ETI can find an opening double insulated escape window that large for the back and still keep the package upgrade at the cost where it is now. In addition the escape window does not have cleaning holes like the conventional windows do so that could be another reason for it's size limitation.

Think NASCAR. Those cars driving two inches from the rear of the car in front are drafting, saving fuel by being sucked along in the vacuum created by the lead vehicle.
That vacuum also sucks dust and rain.

Does anyone know what series (presumably of Hehr windows) Escape is currently using? Hehr has lots of information about sizes and configurations available online.

No, I don't have any info for Hehr, but since ETI is a Canadian company... maybe some or all their windows come from: RV Windows by Sun-View Industries
Almost EXACTLY the same (US side) Hehr windows.
Maybe check with ETI ??

Good point, Donna. Unfortunately, Sun-View doesn't offer a catalog - or any useful information - online.
The idea was just to see what products might be available that might be desirable for individual preferences. I've had a pretty good look at several Escapes, but don't have one in the driveway... thus I was wondering if someone could read the markings on one of their windows (which usually include the manufacturer and perhaps some indication of the product series). I just needed to look a little more: in Cleaning Window Glass, Paul and Janet report having at least one 5600 series Hehr window, and other discussion mentions Hehr... and since I started writing this, Karen has confirmed the use of Hehr (thanks Karen ).
I would look at the details on the Hehr page, but it appears to be the outdated garbage web site from hell, so it won't load properly on this computer, and I am giving up for now.

My 19 has the Hehr emergency exit window, street side rear. Thought it was a standard install. They are the best... and their prices confirm it.
