Is the front storage box water tight?
Does anyone know if driving in the rain causes water to run up the lip and into the front storage box, or is it generally water tight? Thanks.

I've had 2 of them (a 17 & a 21). Both will take on a bit of water when driving in heavy rain.

Thanks. Has anyone applied weather stripping under the lip of the lid to prevent the water?

I tried a couple of different weather strippings on the 17, never got it completely dry, and drilled a couple of 1/8" holes in the low sections of the bottom of each side. I found that Escape did the same thing on my new (2017) 21.

I took our 2013 to Chilliwack for a solar install. While there they replaced the gasket on the front box. I had not noticed it leaking previously but they said a few of them had leaked a little. The very tight seal it has now does not leak either. No Charge! There aren’t any holes in the bottom of the box. I know because I left it open in a rainstorm this summer and there was about two quarts of water in the bottom and it wasn’t going anywhere. Oh well, a good excuse to clean it out, adjust the inventory and dry everything up. That’s been my experience.

My box is brand new. It has weather stripping. There is a gap on the curves on the front. The latches are adjustable and can be set to pull the top down firmly against the weather stripping. So I'd say "pretty water proof" unless some additional weather stripping was used on the two areas with gaps.

Reminds me off all the products out there that say "water resistant".
water-resistant: - able to resist the penetration of water to some degree but not entirely

I have not noticed any wetness in either of our storage boxes. But that being said, I may not have experienced the super wet weather that others do. Both of our Escapes have weather foam cushion between the top of the box and the underside of the lid, which may help a small amount to keep out moisture.

Our 2013 17 B has never had any water issues except the time I left it open. Now I know it holds water and spent some time bailing the water out. But like all bad things there was silver lining, I found some items that where at the bottom now cleaned and ready to use.
