LED light strip will not turn off

We are at the camp site right now and cannot turn off the led lights strip under the awning. Remote control blinking but does not do anything. Not dimming the lights. Any idea how to do turn it off?

Try a new battery in the remote tomorrow. If it’s ultra critical to have off, you might locate which fuse in the panel controls the strip and pull it out. Clean the contacts in the remote when you change the battery.

New battery does not solve the issue. It’s hard wired without a manual off switch l from what I read on some other posts.

Hi: Luba... Look on the "Bright side". At least you don't have to remember to leave the light on if you go out at night!!! Alf

Thank you. It’s been a very bright 24 hours. Luckily we have power hook ups and don’t have to worry about battery being drained. We have to deal with it when we get home.

We had the same problem, we removed the battery from the remote control and put it back in . Had enough power to turn it off. Then purchased new batteries. Good luck

Luba,

Anytime I have a device that is powered on and will not power off I expect to find a stuck relay. The contacts can weld over time after many cycles. If you can find the light strip receiver module it should have the relay that activates the lights inside of it. Trying tapping the outside of the receiver module with the handle end of a screwdriver. You'll have to give it a decent whack in order to dislodge the relay if its stuck. Not so hard as to break the plastic cover or damage something but not a light tap either.

I have an intermittently sticking relay in my garage door opener. It'll start leaving the garage light on and my wife will finally complain so I'll go out and smack the side of the door opener with my hand and it'll shut off and work for another couple of months. One of these days I'll take it apart and order a new relay from Mouser to replace it but I have too many other electronic projects as it is.

Thank you for the transfer switch advice. It worked and the light is finally off. So glad to have helpful people on this forum.

I'm glad you got your problem solved. It was good to meet you folks and camp next to you at Fort Casey. Here's to many, many more adventures in the PNW with your boys!

That's good news I'm happy it worked for you. You can expect that it will happen again, it might be a week or it might be a year before it happens again. Once the relay contacts start sticking they tend to do it more often. Something you could do to try and minimize this from happening is to dim the LED strip quite a bit just before turning it off. This should lower the voltage being fed to the LED strip and subsequently the current across the relay. This should have the effect of prolonging the relay contact life due to the fact they'll be switching on/off at a much lower load.

It was nice to meet you too. Our two year old was running yesterday and saying "LED is off LED is off" which was super cute.

Thank you. We just got our trailer in September and the relay contacts already start sticking. We just wish they also include a manual off and on switch for the strip. Probably will not be using it much after this incident.

You can buy a whole new control off EBay for next to nothing. I lost my remote and bought 3 new units for about $3.50 each or Amazon for $13.00.
