2178-A lock doesn’t fit 17B

We picked up our 17-B in Sumas mid-August. Based upon advice from Proven Industries and this forum we ordered a 2178-A coupler lock from Proven Industries. But when we got our new baby home and parked in storage last week I found I could not make the 2178-A work.

The problem seems to be that the the distance between the round tab that fits into the coupler where the ball goes and the square tab that is supposed to fit behind the rear jaws that grip the ball is just a hair too short. (These are on the middle metal piece that is inside the lock’s exterior housing.). So I cannot install the middle piece so it is flat and so I cannot properly align it with your lock’s exterior housing to line up the holes for the puck lock.

Has anyone else had this problem? This lock has seemed to work for others, has something changed such that it no longer works? Is something different about the 17-B? (I say again, mine ALMOST fits.)

I have contacted Proven Industries about this and they are looking into the matter.

Mine doesn’t attach flat, but does fit. There are a few threads here on Proven working with some customers to get a fit.

I had a similar problem this year. I called Proven and they sent me a new ball insert plate where the tab is angled vs square and it worked just fine.

They were super nice and helpful.

As noted, I had contacted Proven Industries before I posted about this problem. Almost before I had a chance to read these replies Proven Industries had a replacement insert in the mail for me. Apparently they have experienced this problem before.

My experiences with their customer service have been excellent.
